Davide had no shame. Well, he did. But walking aroung in a swimsuit was the norm, especially when you lived only minutes away from the beach. For some reason, he didn't quite seem to notice or care about the strange looks, draping his towel around his shoulders as he knocked on what he believed to be Bane's door.
Bane had decided to take the day and work on his strength training some, so instead of running laps around the courts like he'd been doing, he was in his room, shirtless, doing one-handed pushups. They really were a lot more difficult than regular ones... "It's....open..." he grunted, pushing himself up, other hand held behind his back.
Davide blinked, opening the door after a while, peering in at Bane before closing the door after him, a hand at his side. "Yo, Bane-san." He paused to watch his senpai, leaning back against the door. "What're you pushing up to?" A snrk, haha, that was a good one.
Bane rolled his eyes and concentrated on lowering himself down, then pushing up again. "I'm going til my arm gives out," he managed in between repetitions. The way his arm was shaking as he pushed up, though, he was almost there. It wasn't his dominant hand, after all. "Nngg.."
"Think you're gonna be too tired to go to the pool?" Davide sat cross-legged on the floor, leaning forward to watch Bane train, suppressing the urge to distract him any more than he probably was already. Davide hadn't really thought to ask anyone else. "Allllmost there, Bane-san."
Just a couple more and Bane flopped to the ground, panting. "Nnnn. The pool sounds really good right about now." He was all hot and sweaty, and the cold water would feel so good. "Gimme a minute to rest a little, then change, and we'll go."
Worked for him. Davide sat on the floor, still cross-legged, leaning back on his hands. "You remembered your swimsuit right?" He peered over at the other, sort of impressed at the one-handed push-ups. Davide had only been able to do a couple at a time before his arms hurt.
Bane gave a breathless chuckle before pushing himself up with his other arm and actually sitting on his floor. "Of course. It's a staple. Beach bums like me never go anywhere without their swimsuit." He nudged at Davide with his foot, instead of kicking him for the earlier pun.
Davide nodded. "You're like a herd of elephants - you don't leave home without your trunks?" He attempted, grinning lamely, ducking the inevitable. "I figured you wouldn't. So. Get dressed?" He added hopefully, a little excited to go check out the pool. He hadn't even been there, yet - it was almost a sin.
Bane grinned and got his trunks out of his drawer. "If I didn't need these, I'd be throwing them at your face for that one." He pondered reaching into the hamper and throwing a pair of his roommate's dirty underwear at him, but.....nah. That was just gross. He let himself into the bathroom and changed, then grabbed his towel. "Let's go."
"Not cool, Bane-san." Davide adjusted his towel over his shoulders and walked out with his former partner, glancing down the hallway. "Hopefully, those other guys won't be there." Davide had done a good job of avoiding Higa Chuu - mostly. There was that guy on his team, but they'd gotten along in an odd sort of....rivalry way.
Bane blinked. "What other guys?" He hadn't really been paying attention to who all else was here. Rikkai, he knew, as well as Seigaku, Yamabuki, and Hyoutei, but that was all he'd noticed.
"The team we played at nationals. Y'know, the ones that - did that to Ojii." Davide gave a light shrug. "A lot of them are here."
Bane stared at Davide for a moment, then, realizing that his partner was serious, he growled. "They actually let those guys come, after that?" ...True, it was possible there were mitigating circumstances at Nationals, but...that didn't mean Bane had to be happy about it.
"Yeah?" Davide wasn't really too happy when he'd heard either, but, all teams that had participated in Nationals had been invited to attend. "Lucky their coach isn't here. I might have had to go after him, y'know?" The redhead opened the door to the pool, a quick look to find that it was empty after all. Not bad.
"If their coach was here, he'd be lucky if a kick to his skull was all I gave him." Bane would probably actually be kicked outta camp for violence, if the coach was there. He tossed his towel on a chair and stretched. "I really should get my lifeguard certificate renewed."
"Good think he's not here then, cause I have a feeling he'd probably get double what those jerks did to Ojii." Davide peered at the empty pool, abandoning his towel and flip-flops to sit by the side. He'd been wanting to work as a lifeguard over the summer. Maybe on weekends. Davide needed some extra money here and there, and what better way to earn it than sitting on the beach getting a tan? "I need to get mine renewed too."
Bane kicked off his shoes and grinned. "We've both been slacking, then," he remarked, taking a few steps back away from the pool. He got a good, running start, then jumped into the pool. "CANNONBALL!" he shouted in midair, drawing his knees up and wrapping his arms around them just before he hit the water, right next to where Davide was sitting.
Davide had been inching into the water, when a flying Bane landed in the pool next to him, splashing the cold water over him. Davide spat out a good amount, jumping in after him and setting his hands firmly on Bane's shoulders, dunking him below the surface. "How'dya like THAT?"
Bane laughed and sputtered as he got his feet firmly planted on the bottom of the pool. Then he wrapped his arms firmly around Davide's waist and hefted him up over his shoulders, out of the water. He'd have to set him down before long, he knew - Davide wasn't exactly light, after all - but in the meantime... He enjoyed the reaction and debated trying to throw Davide into the pool.
Davide splashed water at Bane as he was hefted out of the water, the sudden air seemingly even colder than the pool water. "Bane-san! Put me down?" Davide couldn't quite get a good angle to kick at Bane's chest in order to swim off, his arms flailing a little to gain hold of something. He finally grabbed hold of Bane's head. "Stoppit."
Bane laughed. "Why should I, huh? This is kinda fun. I like being able to do this." Not that he could hold him up long, even like this. Finally he had to set Davide down, but instead of just letting go, he gave him a toss towards the deeper end of the pool. "Damn you're heavy."
Davide scowled at him, giving another half-hearted splash at him before swimming in the deep end a little, turning back and paddling to Bane's end of the pool again. "Am not. You're probably heavier." Bane had more muscle. And was taller. Davide snorted indignantly, treading water. "And it's not fun."
Bane grinned. "I bet I am. That just means you can't do to me what I did to you." He ducked under the water again and came up, slicking his hair back and out of his eyes. "It's loads of fun, Davide!" He reached out and messed with Davide's hair, figuring that his partner wouldn't really care, this time, since the water had already messed it up.
"Well, that -- " Davide hoisted Bane up, managing to get him up a few inches in the water, grunting a little as he pushed Bane in the water. "...Deep-ends. I could do it in the deep end probably." Water pressure...and all of that. The redhead frowned up at a wet tendril hanging in his eye, blowing it out of his face. "You suck."
"I should throw you every time you pun," Bane pondered aloud, grinning. He climbed out of the pool and headed to the diving board. "If just because you can't toss me!" He hadn't dove in a long time, and wondered if he still could. He walked out to the end, did a few small jumps in preparation, and then dove into the deep end of the pool.
"You only did it cause I wasn't expecting it." Davide muttered, paddling to the deep end to crawl out after Bane, straddling the diving board to watch the other resurface. "Not bad, but you could work on your form." He pressed his palms to the board, hoisting himself up again after Bane had moved out of the way.
"Hey, cut me some slack. It's been a long time since I've swam in still water. I prefer the ocean anyway. And surfing. Man, I miss surfing." Bane leaned back against the edge of the pool, legs moving lazily to keep him up. He found himself just kind of watching Davide, and his last meeting with Ittchan floated through his head. ....Could Davide really have a crush on him?
Davide took a leap in, arching down into the water and coming back up, spluttering slightly to take a deep breath of air. "Surfing's fun. We should go surfing when we get back home, Bane-san." He ran a hand through his wet hair, floating in the water on his back. "I miss the beach."
Bane was so lost in his thoughts and in watching Davide that he totally didn't hear what the other guy said. In fact, it barely registered that Davide had said anything at all. He blinked, trying to remember... And gave up. "Uh. ... I'm sorry, what were you saying?"
Davide frowned. "I said we should go surfing." He scratched the back of his neck, looking at Bane. "What's up with you?" He prodded his old doubles partner in the shoulder. "You're acting weird."
"Oh. Yeah. Sorry. Surfing. Totally. I have to see if you've gotten any better lately. Last we went, you kept wiping out." Eheheh. Totally not going to tell Davide what he'd been thinking about.
"I did not." Davide pouted. "That was you. Or maybe it was Aoi." He hummed. "Last time we went surfing Aoi wiped out pretty major. Kinda scary actually. Sae-san had to give him CPR...anyway. I've been practicing. You been keeping up?"
Bane promised himself he wouldn't get too distracted. After all, staring at Davide and wondering if Ittchan was right wouldn't necessarily get him any answers. "I distinctly remember you taking a few yourself, Davide. And of course I've kept up. I bet I'm better than you."
"I got my own board for my birthday last year." Davide scoffed. "I was getting bored without it, so..." He snorted slightly at the pun. "You probably are still better at me though. You always were more boring than me." A grin, and Davide moved a little closer, leaning against the edge of the pool beside Bane.
Bane stared at Davide. Another pun, huh? And he couldn't kick very well in the water... He took a breath and ducked under, yanked Davide's trunks down and off, then darted away with them, swimming as far from Davide as he could get. Then he hopped out of the pool and held them up, grinning.
"Bane-san!" Davide hadn't quite realized what was going on until Bane had jerked off his swim trunks, the tall third year turning nearly the color of his hair as he watched Bane pulling out of the water and holding his trunks up. Davide was torn between covering himself or swimming over, swimming quickly taking priority as he swam fast to the other side of the olympic pool. He covered himself a little, still burning brightly, looking up at Bane. "U-uh, can...can I have 'em back?"
Bane chuckled. "Hmmmm...I dunno....." Damn. It really was fun to tease Davide, for some reason. He balled up Davide's trunks and tossed them up into the air, then caught them as they came down, thinking. Like this, he could probably make Davide tell him, whether or not he had a crush on him.... But that wouldn't be nice. Or right. Crush confessions shouldn't be forced, after all. "I had the urge to chuck a pair of shorts at you earlier. What better pair than your own?" He grinned finally, aiming the shorts at Davide's head.
Davide caught the swimsuit, immediately tugging it to his waist again, giving Bane a dirty look. "Too bad you came up a little short." He pulled the board shorts up and gave a sign of relief, paddling to the edge of the pool again. "That wasn't cool, Bane-san." He leaned on his arms, peering up at his partner from the side. Davide pondered reaching up to tug Bane's shorts down, wondering idly if he could reach from this angle.
Bane wasn't going to give Davide the chance to try yanking off his shorts in retaliation. He lay down on his stomach at the edge of the pool and pillowed his head on his arms, looking right at him. "You're so fun to pick on," he observed aloud, grinning.
"Am not." Davide scowled towards him, slightly annoyed that his plan was foiled before it began. He frowned a little and poked Bane's forehead, thinking hard. "Did you know that...it's a fact. Taller people sleep longer in beds." He snorted softly. That one was on his newsletter he'd gotten this morning that he'd meant to share.
Bane made a face. "If I didn't know better, I'd swear you liked getting kicked," he remarked, whacking Davide's skull for that one. Really. So many puns when nobody laughed, and generally the only reaction out of anybody was Bane kicking him.
"It's a possibility." Davide shrugged. "That, and it just wouldn't be funny unless I provided the rhyme and you the punishment. Together we're Rhyme and Punishment, Bane-san." He snickered softly at that one, expecting to get decked any second. "I might be a masochist, too. Maybe a little." He pondered the reality of that. "Puns are worth the pain, I think."
"........" Bane didn't know what to say to that, really, beyond "You're bizarre, Davide. Really, really bizarre." He was too busy contemplating his partner to have noticed the pun, and even if he had, he probably wouldn't have bothered hitting him for it.
Aw. That had been one of his favorites, too, cheesy as it was. Really, he almost wanted to call them that. If the Golden Pair was corny, he could just picture what rival teams would think of the Rhyme and Punishment pair. He shrugged in regards to Bane calling him out on his bizarre behavior. "It'd be boring to be sane."
Bane just grinned. "Well, I gotta give you that. You're hardly boring." He reached out and poked Davide on the nose. Then he smirked. "You're always keeping me on my toes."
"Not really." Davide remarked, slipping back in the water to paddle backwards. "You gotta put a leg up to kick me, so really, I'm keeping you off your toes." Ahaha, so witty. "So if you're gonna swim, might wanna....y'know, swim Bane-san. 'Stead of looking at me all weird like that."
"But my other foot is on my toes when I kick you. ...Nevermind. It's no good if I have to explain it." Ah well. He reached into the water and splashed Davide. "How am I looking at you weird, huh?" ...Was he? Naah. Couldn't be...
"Dunno. You're just acting kinda strange." Well. Stranger than usual. He wasn't hitting him as much for the puns, too. Davide grabbed an arm and tugged. "Swim."
Bane blinked. "I am not. I'm just like I always am." Did it mean something that Davide thought he was behaving differently? ...or was it just simply an observation, and he really was acting different? ...Gah. Too much thinking.
Davide backpaddled for a second, toes barely scraping the bottom of the pool, staring up at Bane. "Hmm. If you say so." He shrugged, ducking down into the water and swimming underneath the water.
Bane just stayed laying there for a while. He did some of his best thinking while lying around, soaking up the sun. Besides. He'd spent so much time tanning his front lately that his back was pale by comparison.
Davide swam a lap or two around the pool, dunking under the water and wetting his hair again after a moment, returning back to the poolside. Pausing a moment, he lingered at the poolside, staring at Bane again for a minute. "I think I'm gonna get out in a sec."
"Aww, feels like we just got here," Bane grinned mischeivously, deciding not to think anymore when Davide was around. He could think later. He got up, just enough to launch himself into the pool water in a shallow dive, making sure to splash Davide good in the process. He turned and swam back around towards Davide as he surfaced. "I have been kinda out of it, haven't I? Sorry, partner," he apologized, tossing an arm around Davide's shoulders.
"We've been swimming for an hour or so. Davide shrugged, splashing Bane back with a kick of his feet. He grinned after a second, slinging his other arm around Bane. "We should race. Then after you lose you can buy me a parfait. Sound good?"
Bane laughed. "Me? Lose? Hardly. You're gonna lose so bad, Davide." He would've swatted Davide's rear at that, but the water would've killed the effect by slowing his hand down. Instead, he dunked Davide's head under the water, then dashed off to the lap lanes to race.
"You might have stronger legs, sure!" Davide called after, paddling his way over to Bane. "But I have stronger arms." Davide followed, spluttering a bit of water out. "You make for a lame lifeguard. That's TWICE you've tried to drown me." He got into a lane, grinning. "You wanna count us off?"
Bane just grinned. "I'd never actually let you drown, you know that. Who would I play doubles with if you died?" He positioned himself for the start of the race. "One full lap - other end of the pool and back again?"
"You could probably play with Saeki." Davide shrugged. "Who're you playing with now, anyway?" He leaned against the wall, waiting to start, planting one foot firmly against the pool wall to kick himself off.
"Eh. Saeki's good, but I don't think our styles would mesh. ...Remember those guys we played against last year, from Seigaku? The power team that ended up beating us? Kawamura. He's the one Yukimura's had me teamed with so far." He counted off, three, two, one, GO! and pushed off, swimming his hardest.
Davide nodded. "Oh yeah? That's neat." He kicked off swimming hard - one two, breath, one two, breath - trying to remember the pattern as he focused on getting to the other end of the pool. He hit the other side with his palm, legs kicking off again as he turned to go the other way.
Bane was keeping pace right beside Davide, slapped the wall just a second behind him, turned, and shoved off the wall again, his legs giving him an extra little boost to push him just barely ahead of Davide.
Davide was determined to stay on course, his breathing getting harder as he swam faster to follow Bane. It didn't take long for them to cover the last few remaining feet of water, Davide's hand hitting the side of the pool at almost the exact same time Bane's did. "....Damn." He looked at both of them, unsure who'd hit first.
Bane surfaced and grinned, shaking the water from his hair like a dog. "I think we tied," he panted out, slumping against the side of the pool. "We've never tied before...have we?"
"Nope." Davide held up a hand against the offending spray of water. "Most've the time you win." Well, usually. Davide shrugged. "Maybe I'm just getting better at it." He peered at Bane with a slight smirk. "So now that we're all tied up, what'll we do?"
Bane pondered that. "We could do another lap. Or we could just both go for parfaits. Treat each other, maybe?" he chuckled. It sounded kinda silly, but hey. It was fair, at least.
"We could do that." Davide grinned, hoisting himself up onto the sid of the pool. "But don't be mad if I get the deluxe one. It tastes a whole lot better." He nodded matter-of-factly.
Bane laughed. "Davide, with you, I wouldn't expect anything less." He wrung the ends of his hair out, trying to get rid of most of the rest of the water in it. He didn't want it to drip all over if they were going somewhere, after all.
Davide dragged his hair back in a ponytail again, finding himself wearing it quite a bit more often that way -- only when his hair messed up, or was wet or...well, it was just easier than finding the nearest bathroom and spending half an hour curling the strand in the front with his index finger. Davide grinned and climbed out of the pool, grabbing his towel and wiping himself off.
Bane hauled himself out of the pool and found his towel, drying himself off with it as much as possible, for his shorts still being soaked, then towel-dried his hair, which wasn't going to stay up like usual. It never did, when wet. "Ugh. Yeah. Definitely time for a haircut," he muttered to himself, trying to keep his bangs out of his eyes.
Davide couldn't help but laugh a little at Bane's hair. "We can just swing by the locker rooms and grab a shirt real quick. Or we can go all the way back? Up to you." He stood up on his toes a bit to ruffle the brown, droopy hair. "As awesome as going shirtless is, we wouldn't want to be man-nipple-ated."
"................God, Davide. I think that was your worst one yet," Bane groaned, giving him a good solid kick. "I think I'd rather go get a full change of clothes. Walking around in a wet swimsuit all day gets pretty irritating."
Davide snorted and rubbed the back of his head, the kick pushing his ponytail just about two inches up his head. Haha. Not bad. Davide grinned and followed Bane back to the dorms. "Good idea, good idea." He waited for Bane to get his and headed towards his own room to change also.
Bane made it a quick change into dry clothes, just a t-shirt and shorts over ncie and dry boxers, then slipped on his sandals and headed to meed Davide between their rooms. He stretched as he walked, shirt riding up a little. "Nng. Probably should've swam more after all," he pondered aloud.
Davide was quick to throw on a pair of jeans and a tanktop, doing some slight maintenence on his hair before coming right back to meet Bane. "You weren't waiting long, right?" He'd also snagged bus fare -- a while before he'd come he had looked up the nearest places on the bus route.
Bane shook his head. "Nah. Just barely got here myself." He stopped leaning on the wall and started heading towards the bus stop, knowing Davide would walk right with him. "So. I hope you know where we're going, because I sure don't."
"It's a couple of stops up that way." Davide pointed in a vague direction - he'd figure it out when they got to the bus stop. "It's supposed to be pretty good, too. Bet it's not as good as the one place by the beach." Davide couldn't recall another place tasting as good. It'd been a while since he'd been anywhere else though.
Bane nodded. That was about as much as he'd expected, for now. "I don't think anywhere will ever be as good as that. Try as they might, non-beach-people don't ever make as good of icecream or cool desserts as beach-people."
"No way." Davide agreed. "Dunno, I think you just need that salt water mouth or something for the ice cream to taste good..." He bought a bus ticket, looking back at Bane. "How ya faring?" He paused to snort, adding another couple of coins to get both of them tickets.
"Yeah, maybe. Or the pure physical exhaustion that only comes from a long day on the beach." Bane didn't kick Davide for that one, as a sort of thanks for buying his bus ticket. "I'll buy our tickets back," he promised.
"You're buying my parfait." Davide glanced back as he flopped down in a seat, grateful that this town was small enough that the trains weren't packed. "Either way s'fine." He gave a light shrug and grinned. "Hey, if anyone asks where we are, we can just say that we went ...training." Snort.
"Yeah, and you're buying mine, remember? So we're even on that. But you bought my..." He paused, just long enough to kick Davide for the pun. "...train ticket, so I can at least even it out and buy yours on the way back.”
"But mine's more expensive." Davide narrowed his eyes a little to try and make sense and shrugged. It wasn't like he cared who bought the tickets or anything. "Okay, Bane-san." It wasn't like a date where someone bought everything, but at least Davide could do something nice once in a while. "Mn. I think I want strawberry..." Yum.
"You don't know for sure. I might get the same thing you do," Bane grinned, tugging at a little lock of Davide's ponytail. Bane didn't want it to feel like a date. Letting his friend pay his ride there felt date-ish, if he couldn't return the favor. Because Davide was just a friend, and totally not crushing on him. ...Right?
"You should do that." Davide blinked. "So that when I'm done with mine, I can eat all of yours that you have left." The redhead folded his arms on his chest at the tug on his hair, already having fixed it a little...hn.
Bane laughed. "You'd would eat it, too," he grinned. Yeah, maybe he would. Davide did so love those parfaits, after all. He poked at Davide's crossed arms. "Hey. At least I didn't make a mess of it."
"You bet I would." At least he kept fit enough to be able to handle an overdose of calories once in a while. Davide couldn't fathom being forced to go without them for more than a month. "I know." Davide frowned. "I stopped carrying my hair wax with me though. So don't mess it up too much, okay?" He leaned back, resting his feet in the other seat besides Bane.
Bane chuckled. "I won't be too mean, I promise. But yanno...I kinda like your hair better without the wax. It's really soft." Bane was half tempted to just shove Davide's feet off the seat for no reason, but he resisted the urge.
Davide turned to look up at him, a bit taken off guard by that, quickly thinking of a pun to break the tension. He tried to think of something, anything, but noting really came to mind. Dammit. Davide just frowned slightly. "....That's cool."
Bane shrugged. "Well. I mean. That's just me. It's your hair, so. You know. Who am I to tell you how to wear it." He'd expected a pun in response, so he was a little off-guard that he hadn't gotten one.
Davide folded his arms over his chest again, disappointed that he still couldn't think of anything. "Yeah. I don't mind." Which was strange. Because he'd been leaving his hair down lately. And Bane had told him he liked it. .......Hn. "It's the next stop. Bane-san."
Bane nodded and, when the train stopped, he got up and led the way off of it, then stopped on the platform. "You gotta lead from here. I've not been into town yet, so I don't know where anything is."
"Sure, sure." Davide settled his hand in his pockets, heading towards where he was pretty sure the parfait shop was. Mmm, parfaits. He found the shop, pink and swirled and cute looking, filled with couples on dates and cute little families. Davide thought nothing of it as he pulled the door open.
Such a...frilly place. Girly. And...date-like. Damn. Well. As long as no one assumed anything, it was fine. He followed Davide in, hands in his pockets, and stepped into the line, looking over the menu as he waited. "Hmmmm....what kind should I get...."
Davide set his palms on the counter, leaning over to peer at the menu. "I'd like a super deluxe strawberry parfait, please." He paused and motioned for Bane to order. "Wait, he's paying for mine." He settled back, waiting for Bane.
Bane chuckled. "What the hell. Make it two. And he's paying for mine," he added, pointing to Davide. At the strange look the clerk gave him, he just grinned and shrugged. "Don't ask."
Davide paid for Bane's, laughing a little at the clerk's strange reaction, pausing when they got their parfaits and had a seat in a booths. "Know what? I think that the person at the register was checking you out." He snorted.
Bane sat and raised an eyebrow at Davide's statement. "What makes you say that? I hardly even looked at her." ...Though the fact that Davide noticed....did that mean Ittchan was right? ...GAH. NOT THINKING ABOUT IT.
"No. She was checking you out. Since you were in line - and she - " It was a pun. "It's not funny if I have to explain it, Bane-san!" He frowned, leaning forward on his hands.
Bane blinked. Wha-- Oh. OH! That was a pun! He laughed, partly at the pun, but mostly at himself for having missed it. "Oy, Davide. I think I'm getting so used to those that I don't even notice them anymore."
Davide swiped a strawberry from Bane's sundae as payment, digging into his own parfait happily. Mm...Strawberries. So good. So, so good... "Probably. It wasn't a good one." He frowned. It always sucked when they were more ambiguous.
"...Hey. My strawberry." Bane swiped one from Davide's parfait and popped it into his mouth before Davide could stop him. "And yeah. That one wasn't as noticeable, so it kinda went right past me."
"You got more than me." Davide explained, attempting to stealthily grab another from Bane's parfait. He sighed and went back to his own, protecting it worth more than stealing from the other's -- even if Bane's did look like it had more strawberries on it. Maybe the clerk WAS checking him out. Davide frowned at that, eating a piece of shortcake defiantly. Didn't make a difference to him, right? Right. Bane had a lot of girls looking at him. Davide just paid them no attention. "S'okay. You'll get the next one and pay me back double or something."
Bane chuckled. "Maybe she WAS checking me out, after all," he shrugged. "Not my fault she thought I was hot." He glanced over there, doing so as discreetly as possible so the girl wouldn't think anything of it, then turned back to his parfait. "Eh. She's not my type anyway," he remarked absently.
Davide peered over Bane's shoulder at the girl, craning to see. So she was looking over! And staring at Bane. And probably did think he was hot. Davide frowned, kicking back in his seat, shoulders hunched over lazily as he ate another couple bites of his parfait. "You don't think so? You should ask her out. She looks cute." Too cute, dammit. Davide swiped another spoonful of cream and strawberries to cram in his mouth.
Bane blinked. Davide's tone sounded like normal, but his body language was all off. He looked...irritated. Definitely not happy. Almost.......jealous. Huh. "Nah," Bane replied, shaking his head. "I like 'em taller, and not so skinny. And definitely not that...girly."
“Hn." Davide peered back at her, still not sure how he felt about the girl at the counter. Right. She wasn't his type. Not at all. So she could catch his eye and giggle all she wanted. Davide relaxed visibly, finishing off his parfait, leaning on his hand. "I guess you've got lots of girls hitting on you in high school, huh?"
Bane smiled when Davide relaxed. That was a good sign.... and it did kind of hint that maybe Ittchan really had been right... It made Bane wonder if he could get a little more proof out of this conversation. "Yeah. I've had a bunch of girls confess to liking me," he shrugged. "But they're all the really girly ones, who like the idea of a knight in shining armor and burst into giggles whenever I so much as look their way. It's...kinda irritating, actually."
"The only time I ever get hit on is when I make a really bad pun. Aoi's backhand's good for more than just tennis apparently." Davide looked at the counter girl again, chuckling softly. He sort of wanted another parfait - something maybe to distract him from staring at Bane and wondering about the pretty girls who asked him out. "You do make a pretty good knight in shining armor, I guess. Sorry, your life sucks, Bane-san. All the girls love you."
Bane grinned. "Kentarou took to whacking you for them? Good. Someone's gotta keep it up, before you miss the abuse too much," he chuckled. "And yeah, it actually does suck, when girls are all over you and your tastes run the other way." That was about as close as he was going to get to admitting - out loud, at least - that he liked boys, not girls.
"Yeah, yeah." Davide grinned, his arms crossing over his chest as he sat back. It took a while before he thought about what Bane had said. So... that meant. ...Bane-san. Davide blinked, staring over at his friend incredulously. "Bane-san. Are you....uh. Y'know." Davide paused, a sudden curiosity piqued.
Bane chuckled a little sheepishly and leaned back in his chair. So. Davide'd put it together. Well. Good. At least that was out in the open, now. "Uh. Yeah. Yeah, I guess I am," he replied, scratching the side of his nose with a finger. He hoped it wouldn't be a problem for their friendship...
"Ahaha." Davide laughed a little, somehow ridiculously more relaxed. He grinned and leaned forward. "Oh, man, Bane-san. I had no idea. I mean out of...all of us, it'd figure that Kentarou was the straight one." He stood after a second. "I'm getting another parfait. Want one?"
It felt like a huge weight had been lifted, when Davide relaxed even more. Bane was glad. He didn't want Davide to be uncomfortable around him, or anything. "You say that like he's the only straight one. And even then, I'm not so sure he is. You've seen the way he looks at Saeki, sometimes." He shook his head. "Nah, I'm good," he replied, gesturing to his half-eaten parfait. "Still working on this one."
"Mmm." Davide nodded, taking his trash and feeling brave enough to face the clerk now, grinning as he told her a pun he'd thought of. Felt much better to make a girl laugh now, that he wasn't seeing her as competition. ...Not that she was. Or that Davide was interested in Bane. Right? Right. Just because he went the other way made their friendship no different. Davide paid for the sundae and returned, grinning. "She liked my pun, Bane-san. See? She gave me extra whip cream."
Bane chuckled. Now that Davide was relaxed, he felt safe enough to tease him about it a little. "Yeah, but she didn't like it enough to give you extra strawberries," he grinned, lifting one out of his parfait cup with his spoon.
"Obviously not." Davide snorted, digging into his parfait. "Maybe she thought I had enough fruit." He took a bite, grinning over at Bane. At least they sort of seemed less tense. "Or maybe she thought I needed to be whipped?" He took another bite, content.
Bane blinked, then threw his head back and actually laughed. Oh god. Probably the last thing he needed was for Davide to go around making sexual puns, but he'd be damned if they weren't actually a little funny. "Oh god, Davide," he chuckled, trying to contain himself a little.
Davide grinned. "Yeah?" He always knew the puns were good if Bane of all people laughed at them. Then again, the ones about sex usually were a hit with almost everyone. It was a nice, safe topic - well, at least sure to guarantee a laugh or two. "Did you wanna do somethin' else while we're in town?"
Bane took a moment to quit laughing, but he couldn't seem to quit chuckling. He had to really pause and take a deep breath or two before even the chuckles stopped. "Sure, why not," he shrugged. "Might as well. Have something in mind?"
"We could....uh." Davide twirled a lock of hair around his finger, trying to remember what they had passed on the way to the parfait shop. Hmm. "Not really? But I - uh. I'm sure there's...something else to do." Other than play tennis. Although that sounded like fun. Davide finished his parfait, setting the spoon in the cup.
Bane pushed the last few bites of his parfait over to Davide. It really had been too much for him, after all. And Davide had managed to eat TWO. No idea where Davide put it all. "We could always walk around for a while, until we find something," Bane shrugged.
"Sweet." Davide picked up his spoon again, swallowing the remainder of Bane's parfait quickly. He stood, brushing his lap off and tossed their trash away, opening the door to leave the small shop. "Maybe there's an arcade somewhere around here?"
Bane stuck his hands in his pockets as they walked, and he kept an eye out for something fun. "Maybe. There's gotta be something for the locals our age to do." A couple of girls giggled and murmured behind them, and Bane tried not to be too obvious about rolling his eyes. "Ugh."
Davide blinked back at the girls, taking a moment to watch them before yanking Bane's hand in his own, looking across the street for something to do. "Oughta shut 'em up." He whispered, never minding the fact that it caused the girls to whisper louder, making disappointed sounds to each other. Davide looked at a couple of shops, window shopping.
Bane blinked down at their hands. He didn't mind, he just...hadn't been expecting it. "If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were jealous," he whispered back, grinning and giving Davide's hand a little squeeze. In his mind, it was almost official that Ittchan had been right. Only...it kinda seemed like if Davide was crushing on him, he wasn't aware of it himself.
Davide snorted, giving Bane's hand another squeeze in return. "Nah. They're just annoying. If it shuts them up, it's worth it." He wasn't jealous. Not at all. Of course not. His other hand dug in his pocket, yanking Bane across the street, heading to a sports shop. "I need more griptape, Bane-san."
Bane grinned to himself. "But it actually just kinda made them louder," he remarked, letting himself be tugged along. Yeeeah. Davide just didn't know it. "You're still using Ojii's racket, right? The one he made for you?" He started looking around the shop, and tugged Davide along when he found the grip tape section.
"Yeah." Davide peered around, looking for the brand he preferred. "I run out pretty quickly since the handle's so long." He picked through a couple until he found the color, only just realizing that his hand was still tightly wrapped around his partners. He dropped it quickly, glancing away. "Uh. You need anything? I found it."
"Nope, I'm good." Bane chuckled a little. Davide was actually being...kinda cute. ".....You know. Ittchan has an interesting theory... He thinks somebody at camp has a huge crush on me." He couldn't resist poking at Davide with his 'innocent' comment...
Davide stiffened a little, still stalking his way casually to the register, plunking the grip tape down, embarrassed that he could still feel the heat of Bane's hand. "Really." He wasn't jealous. Really. No. "Why would he think someone like that?"

Bane shrugged. "I dunno. But. He thinks it so strongly that he got mad at me when I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. Seriously, he like, wouldn't talk to me, until I figured it out. He thinks this person's got it really bad."
"Wow." Davide paid the register clerk and went on his way, not pausing to wait for Bane, trusting the other'd follow. Not to mention he felt a little strange at that odd remark. "It's only been what....a couple of weeks since you've been here? That's pretty impressive." Hn. Or maybe it was...Ittchan? Could it be? ...Maybe...Although Davide had always figured Ittchan had something for Saeki.
Bane kept up, but noticed that Davide seemed to be walking a little faster, like he was irritated again. ...Jealous? Maybe. He thought about telling Davide that his little confrontation about it with Itsuki had been during one of his first days, but that would probably give it away that it was someone from Rokkaku. "Yeah. But I guess it happened pretty quick. Or Ittchan's just like, psychic or something."
Davide was feeling very....peculiar, like his hair was standing on end or something, and he made a mental note to talk to Itsuki about who the heck this person thought they were, having a crush on Bane-san. He headed back towards the train station, wondering if they'd find something on their way back. "Maybe he'll major in psychictry." A snort. Okay, not funny. "Who'd he say it was?"
"He didn't. Well, not really. He made me figure it out. And...I've been kinda trying to see if Ittchan's right." Bane ignored the bad pun, in favor of being amused over how stiff Davide was being now. He followed along, hands in his pockets. "I think he is."
Davide paused. "Is it Momoshiro-san?" His eyes narrowed a little as he looked at Bane. They'd been pretty friendly after the Kantou match. Davide had suspected something. He shoved his hands in his pockets again. Hm. Maybe Saeki - he had never actually confessed who his crush had been on, at the beach. There was that possibility too.
Bane shook his head. "No, not Momoshiro. He's got Tachibana's sister, remember?" Hmmm. As fun as it was, Bane kinda didn't like the way Davide seemed to be drawing away from him a little. So Bane took one hand out of his pockets and draped his arm around Davide's shoulders, tugging him in a little as they walked.
"Saeki-san?" Davide attempted again, frowning over at Bane, feeling mildly consoled. Not that he was jealous. In any way. "One of the girls from the cafeteria?" He walked a little closer. "I don't know, Bane-san."
Bane chuckled. "I doubt it's Saeki. See...this person...well. I don't think he knows he's got a crush on me. Sae-san's too self-aware for that. And c'mon. You know I wouldn't care if it was one of the girls."
"I still don't know." Davide paused until he realized just what part of the sentence he echoed, the realization making him stop in the middle of the sidewalk. "Bane-san. You - he thinks - wait, I - " Sputtering, he grabbed Bane's arm and pulled them to the side so that they weren't blocking the sidewalk traffic. "....Does he think. Do you think..." Davide settled his hands on Bane's shoulders. "You think I have a crush on you?"
Bane chuckled a little. Alone together in an alley, far enough that most people probably wouldn't see them just by passing by. Hmmmm... So Davide'd put it together. "Ittchan'd be proud. You're quicker than I am," he mused, smiling a little.
"I don't! --- " Davide started to protest, staring at his partner intensely. "Bane-san. I. I think I might." He blinked. "I think I might really...have a crush on you." Okay. So maybe he did have a crush on his senpai. Maybe. He stared a little more. Wow.
Bane grinned. "See? Ittchan was right, after all." He tried to ignore the weird little flip his stomach had done when Davide admitted it, or how much that thought made him smile, but... How do you really ignore things like that? "It's not a bad thing, is it?"
"It's....not a bad thing, no." Davide wasn't sure just how this had even happened. He paused to stare at Bane, somewhat unsure of how to handle it. "So. ...uh. Do...you have a crush on me?" He felt silly saying it, but realizing that he'd been crushing on his best friend made him think even more of a few things. Like how Bane tugged at his hair. Things like that.
Bane hummed and absently tugged at a stray lock of Davide's hair as he thought. The way Davide got all stiff and kinda angry when he was jealous was really cute. And he really did like spending time with Davide, with or without the puns. "Hmm...You know? I think I might."
Davide couldn't help it, a flush brightened up his cheeks, nearly the color of the strand that Bane pulled. He bit his lip, idly wondering where that left them now, hands still resting lightly on his friend's shoulders. "So. If you have a crush on me. And I have a crush on you..." ...This was confusing. All those likes and like-likes and ....he really just. Liked Bane. A lot.
"What do you wanna do about it?" He sort of felt a burning urge to lift the four centimeters it was to brush their lips against each other, but paused, not sure that was going too far. He also wanted to make a pun to ease the tension, but at the current point in time, he - really thought it wasn't quite appropriate.
Bane smiled. Davide was downright adorable when he blushed, and the way he looked so shy right now made him even cuter. "Well. What do other people do when they like each other?" he grinned, sliding his arms around Davide's waist and tugging him closer.
Davide glanced to the opening of the alley, seeing no one walk by, and no one stare strangely at them. He tightened his hold on Bane's shoulders, interlocking his arms around his friend's neck before standing straighter, brushing their lips together as casually and as smoothly as he could manage.
Bane smiled and kissed him properly, presing their mouths firmly together and not caring if they were seen. People could think what they liked. He held Davide against him and gave a soft little purr.
Davide finally pulled away after what seemed like moments stuck in time, a hand dropping to brush up against his mouth. "I guess we pick tulips." He mumbled, the pun somewhat lost on even himself, his hold on Bane still keeping them warm and pressed against each other.
Bane chuckled and raised a hand up to cup Davide's cheek in his palm. "Let's not tell Ittchan just yet. It'll do him good to wonder for a while," he grinned mischievously.
"I - okay." Davide peered out at the sidewalk again, somehow really enjoying being so close to his partner. So it was kind of a secret, sort of...he could do that. Davide moved up again and kissed Bane cautiously once more, holding him closer for a minute.
Bane kissed him back again, this time slow and soft and a little exploring...but not too much. They were technically in public, after all, so he'd save the really exploring kisses for later.
Davide sighed contentedly into the kiss, pulling away to breathe in, pressing their lips together again. He stopped finally, biting his lip as he backed down, feeling dizzied and flushed from something that he was sure wasn't ...supposed to take his breath away, was it? He peered down at his watch. "Bane-san -- the last train to the camp leaves in um. Ten minutes."
Bane blinked. "....We'd better get going, then. It'll be obvious that we left the campus if we arent' back on time." He gave Davide one last little kiss, then grabbed him by the hand and tugged Davide along, heading towards the station.
It felt better to hold Bane's hand without a gaggle of giggling girls following them...and if they were, Davide doubted he'd notice them as they ran back to the station, getting there just in time for the train to arrive, Bane's hand still clenched in his. Might as well get in as much time as he could with his friend like this, right? Davide saw no reason to let go of Bane's hand.
Bane paid for their tickets and tugged Davide onto the train with him, then sat down on an empty bench with Davide right beside him. "Whew," he sighed, grinning. "We made it." He interlaced his fingers with Davide's, since the train was very nearly empty.
Davide leaned a little on Bane's shoulder, grinning a little, imagining he probably looked like an idiot at the moment. "Lucky for us, right?" He looked down at their interlaced fingers, unable to keep from smiling even wider. "We'd have to walk all the way home otherwise." Though if Bane held his hand the whole way, Davide wasn't sure if he'd mind.
Bane rest his head against the top of Davide's, grinning to himself. He hadn't really intended to say anything to Davide about all this crush business, when the day started, and he certainly hadn't expected to end up becoming his boyfriend or kissing him in an alley, either. But looking back on it, he wouldn't change a bit. "And we'd be busted for being off-campus for sure. ...But it'd be worth it."
Davide nodded, grinning a little. "Totally worth it."
