Who: Eiji and Oishi
What: G
When: Today!
Why: They're ROOMMATES and AWESOME
Eiji wandered into the room, chattering happily on the phone, and he flopped down onto his bed. "No~! I ate up the chocolates really fast, they were delicious! The best I've ever had. No, I'm not just saying that! They were really, really good! Mou, Mari-chan~, you're just trying to get compliments out of me. Yes you are! Okay. Okay!" He paused and laughed a little and rolled over onto his back. "No, no, it's okay! I have to go, anyway. I've got homework to do, and I can't duck out of it so easy anymore with Oishi as my roommate." Eiji turned his head and stuck his tongue out at Oishi with a grin. "Okay. Bye-bye, Mari-chan!" With a pleased little sigh, Eiji snapped his phone shut and held it to his chest before he rolled and placed it on the bedside table.
Oishi gave Eiji a half-hearted reprimanding look, turning back to his own homework as his partner finished off his phone call. Thankfully for Oishi's sanity, Eiji hadn't been in the room for the whole phone call. Oishi probably would have excused himself instead of sitting through the torture of listening to Eiji joke around with his girlfriend. They seemed to get along really well; it was almost cute. Almost. "How much do you have left to do, Eiji?"
"Ehehe..." Eiji rubbed his nose a little and glanced away, a perfectly innocent look on his face. Really. Absolutely, perfectly innocent. "Not that much, really!" He grinned and reached under his bed for his books and pulled them out to drop them in front of him. "See? Not a lot!" If visible sweatdrops were possible, there would have been a giant one on Eiji's forehead right then: he had pulled out his books for every subject.
"Eiji..." If Eiji could have a sweat-drop, Oishi's would have been ten times bigger. He moved from his desk over to Eiji's bed, rifling through the stack. "You haven't done any of it yet, have you?" Oishi sighed, moving the books to make room to sit down. He'd help Eiji through what he could, but he wasn't going to do it all for him. Eiji would never learn if he just copied other's papers.
"Um...I've done what we do in group study sessions!" Eiji grinned a little and broke open the nearest book to him, wrinkled his nose at it, and tossed it aside in order to grab a different one. "Ah! There. Japanese. I'll do my Japanese work." He still grinned wide at Oishi as he grabbed his notebook and a pencil, his tongue poking out of the side of his mouth as he concentrated.
"Picking the easiest one first?" Oishi sighed exasperatedly, a smile on his face despite his friend's antics. He resisted the urge to pet Eiji's head, knowing how Eiji felt about getting his hair messed up. Getting up, he collected his books from his desk and brought them over to Eiji's bed, settling in next to his partner to work on the Japanese assignment together.
Eiji gave a sheepish little grin and rubbed the back of his neck. "Maybe!" His smile brightened when Oishi settled in next to him. He was so glad to have someone like Oishi as his roommate; someone who knew his study habits and how to best counter them. He chewed on the end of his pencil and stared down at the work in front of him. Stupid homework. He'd rather go do something fun.
Oishi knew Eiji's study habits quite well, well enough to know that Eiji's mind was wandering already. "When we finish, do you want to go practice some new formations?" Oishi tapped Eiji's notebook to get him to focus back on the sentence he was in the middle of writing. After his discussion with Ohtori, Oishi felt confident to be around Eiji without having to worry so much about being found out. He felt so natural just being with Eiji that he really felt like a fool before. He knew if he played tennis with Eiji now, they'd be perfectly in synch, as they should always be.
"Ah! I'd love to!" Eiji blinked and glanced over at Oishi, a surprised look on his face. Oishi hadn't volunteered to practice outside of scheduled practice in a while. It was a nice change of pace. "We haven't done that in a while, huh?" Eiji wrinkled his nose a little and absently started to fill out the homework like he was supposed to. At least it was a subject he knew well. "I've missed playing with Oishi at random."
"Ah, I'm sorry about that. I haven't really been myself lately," Oishi worded carefully, not yet ready to tell Eiji the whole truth. He would, eventually, but he didn't think it was the right time. But that wasn't important. What was important was getting Eiji's homework done and then re-forging their bond through tennis. He paged ahead, working on a part of the assignment further on, preparing to help Eiji with the next part.
"It's okay, Oishi. I knew you'd snap out of whatever funk you were in sooner or later!" Eiji smiled brightly and nudged Oishi with his elbow before he went back to finishing off the page he had then flipped it to the next one. He bounced a little in his seat since he was making actual progress in his work. "Hey! What if I turned on some music?"
It was amazing how much faith Eiji had in Oishi, it nearly floored him. That Eiji put so much trust in him that everything would turn out all right, it was overwhelming and tugged at Oishi's heart. If it was possible to fall in love any more... "Wouldn't the music just distract you even more?" Oishi asked, pointing out Eiji's incorrect use of the kanji for 'disaster', "We're almost done. I suppose we can put math off until later." Oishi had to admit, he was eager to get back on the court with Eiji. Besides, he had already done his own math assignment and if they really, really had to... Eiji could copy.
Eiji fixed the mistake and gave a thumbs up at the idea to put off math until later. Who needed math, anyway? Well, okay, who beside Inui needed math anyway? He hurried through the rest of the homework, focused as much as he could be. It was HOMEWORK, after all. "Done!" Eiji threw his hands in the air, which unfortunately sent his pencil across the room. He blinked and dropped his hands back down with a laugh. "Oops."
"Be careful, Eiji," Oishi scolded, getting up off the bed to put his books away. He picked the pencil up and handed it back with an amused smile. It was time for tennis, and Oishi couldn't wait to get back on the court. Maybe they could find a random pair to play against, to show everyone that the Golden Pair was still as strong- if not stronger- as ever. Oishi grasped Eiji's hand and tugged him up off the bed with a grin. "Ready?"
Eiji grinned and put his own books away as well, back under the bed from where they had come from. When Oishi grabbed his hand, Eiji squeezed it back and stood up, a bright, happy smile on his face. "Always am as long as it's Oishi. Ne?" He moved to grab his racket and headed out the door, triumphantly twirling it around.
