...Though that doesn't seem to keep me from posting after-hours, here at the office!
(To justify the cause, the majority of this entry was already typed up and saved. I just never bothered to post it until now.)
I'm currently without internet/cable at the house, and it's a mystery of when we'll be able to get it back. Fortunately, Mum started her new job last week, and it seems to be going well, so that's a definite relief and a lessened weight off my shoulders. Surprisingly enough, I am okay with the internet-less situation, because while I am not entirely deprived (*cough*), it will force me to focus on things that I would normally only dream of doing. Other than Benedict Cumberbatch.
Digressing from all that, I'd just like to recap how AWESOME August was because, well, it was an Awesome August. LIVES WERE CHANGED FOREVER and wow, a lot of stuff happened that month. It goes like this: Sherlock Sherlock Sketchy Sherlock, basically. Oh, and a canning class. That was quite fun. But uh, yes, back to everyone's favorite consulting detective.
Ever since the beginning of August, everything has been a whirlwind of Sherlock, which I totally do not mind in the slightest! I managed to surreptitiously convince my good friend colleague
kihanna to watch it, and it's been a non-stop party ever since! We even threw a LEGIT SHERLOCK PARTY, inviting fellow friends who had yet to view this wonderous masterpiece (MYSTERYYY?). There was British food, tentative closet cosplay, and so many inside/fandom jokes that I am wondering how we even made it through the night without being shunned by everyone (except maybe we were, and just didn't care to notice).
-Attending Houston's local Dr. Sketchy session with
kihanna,
pandaxdoll,
kchark, and
Toni! In short, it's "burlesque" figure drawing featuring cute costumes & themes. I don't think I've ever done life/figure drawing, so while I'm extremely rusty, I can't help but be more encouraged and motivated to improve my skill over time. The atmosphere is ultra relaxed and not intimidating at all, which is incredibly welcoming. I'm really looking forward to future sessions with other interested artist friends.
-My uncle mailed down an old camera of my grandfather's from the '70s to me. It's a
PETRI FT 1000 SLR with two extra interchangeable lenses. This is rather delightful, since I do enjoy photography and was entertaining the thought of experimenting with film. I can't wait to start playing around with it once I get a new battery. Could I just work in a darkroom, please?
-JAM SESSION! No seriously, I attended a canning/preserving class with my father over at Hubbell & Hudson. The classes are a little spendy, but it's a very nice facility, and we made a lot of things in the few hours that it lasted.
Tomato Jam, Hot Sauce, Garlic Dill Pickles, and Sweet & Spicy Pickles
(I also made strawberry jam with added balsamic vinegar, but that didn't last long around here, ahaha)
Ah, what a month that was! Now to travel homeward, finish reading the Third Star script, and cry myself to sleep.
