The lunchtime crowds were perfect for it. He slipped out of the office after finishing his morning work early (type-setting for a new pamphlet with updated information and a list of sponsors) and headed immediately for one of the smaller cafes to eat and assess his funds. He had enough to last him a while, so indulging his siblings a little wouldn't put him behind too badly. It was a perfect day to wander the street stalls and shops that were open to the just-warm-enough breeze. Despite the initial rush past number 98, Percy slowed when he reached the more shaded area of the market streets. He browsed in Madman Malkins for Ginny briefly but soon realized the last time he had been present to buy her robes was her first year at Hogwarts. The thought was bittersweet, but he logged a set of shimmery, light summer robes that were enchanted to have embroidered flowers and vines creep up the hem and sleeves in case she mentioned need of a new set.

He lingered longer in the Qudditch Supply store, gaging at the sticker-shock of the newest Phantom Flyer model. Percy had actually been considering a new broom for himself, as his old one had seen much better days. But after a strict reminder that he was there for Ginny, he turned his attention to a rack of variously enchanted gloves and goggles, each boasting more powerful charms than the last.

"Never lose your grip on the Snitch or Quaffle again with Vedder's Better-Hold Gloves! Endorsed by Puddlemere United!"

"See farther no matter what the weather! Trust Garantine's True-Seeing Goggles. If it's not the Garantine Guarantee, it's not worth a Knut!"

He finally settled on a pair of gloves after sticking around to hear a clerk pitch the newest in the Nimbus line, which Percy had heard Oliver rave about before--both the quality and the price. After he was checked out by a pleasant witch sporting a Bulgarian Krum jersey, Percy shuffled out into the street again and allowed himself to wander.

Ron proved to be more difficult than he was really willing to admit. Books really weren't his thing and he wasn't about to get trite and get him something silly and useless. As an adult, Ron needed a suitably adult gift to mark his graduation. Content to drift until something struck him, Percy ended up carried along by a persistent throng of shoppers and was surprised to see a familiar face through the crowd not far away.
