Mum's Birthday. "Bugger." Dennis said, looking at his watch for the fourth time in 20 minutes. Colin never forgot Mum's birthday, but here was Dennis, running from the train the Diagon Alley in order to buy her a nice gift. Mum likes plants, right? he thought as he finally made it to the main drag.

Checking the shoppe signs, Dennis noticed Neville and he didn't look too good.

"Hiya, Nev. You all right, buddy?"

Neville gulped, wiping his forehead as he tried to take deep calming breaths. Hearing his name, he welcomed the distraction. Anything to keep from thinking about what would happen when he walked in that door.

"Oh, hiya Dennis." He tried to give the former Housemate a smile, but it turned out a bit like a grimace. "Got an interview in a bit. Feeling a bit peaky." he confessed, searching his pockets for a handkerchief to wipe his face.

Watching Neville's sweat drip from his forehead, Dennis felt for him. Thank, Merlin, I don't have to go through that just yet. Dennis thought. Dennis could undertstand. even He put off talking to Professor McGonagall about an independent study because, she was a little intimidating.

"Everyone gets nervous every now and then." Dennis said, hoping to help him out. "Who's it with?"

Finding the hankie at last, Neville mopped his forehead, blinking rapidly. "Mr. Lemuel, at the Greenhouse." He gestured across the street. "Gran seems to think I'm a shoo-in, but I don't know. My Charms marks weren't as good as I'd hoped, and Defense against the Dark Arts isn't much help in Herbological work."

He took a deep breath before focusing on the young man next to him. "What are you off to, then?"
