He wasn't sure if she was joking at first because his mind was simply on the idea of holding her. "Probably not," he said. Tilting his head to the side, Dennis though for a moment.

"Well, we both helped out with cheese and some of the more easier chores when we were about 5 or 6. Colin started milking when he was 10. When he got his Hogwarts letter, it had been a real shock; not so much when mine came, but still."

"I think Dad's a little disappointed it, you know? He worked so hard his whole life to give his children something of a legacy, but I don't think either one of us ever wanted it."

He let go of Olra for a minute to carry their pails over to where one of the other workers was preparing to pour in more milk. Crossing back to her, he took her hand. "I wouldn't say the Colin like it; he always had bigger plans for himself. Really got into photography when he was ten then the whole wizard thing and making the photos move...he loved that."

They walked back through the barn to the door where they put on their boots in silence. "What about your parents? Are they disappointed you aren't going to university?"

She gave him a squeeze. "But the legacy is you and Colin, rest his soul. He raised two hard working men." She smiled up at him. "Even if you're not dairy men, you're still something any parent would be proud of." She'd have to bite her tongue and see about inviting Dennis over to meet her folks sometime.

"At least here he had willing subjects. Don't imagine the cows care if you take their picture." She kidded. Shucking her boots, she considered. "I think my parents never quite knew what to do with me. I was always the odd child, not doing things in the order I should. I skipped crawling, went straight to walking, didn't talk for a while, but I was pulling out books and reading, or at least looking at pictures before I was a year old. And when I hit school..." She shook her head. "I think they're finally starting to accept its not a phase, but since Ainsley's around to mold into something proper, or at least closer to normal, they don't bother overmuch. I don't tax them too much, so they don't nag me on it. Figure if I did, I'd pay my own way." She couldn't wait to hear from the Snidget Preserve. She so wanted to move out.

Squeezing her back, Dennis gave a small shrug. Sure, he was planning on working with creatures, most likely dragons, but he knew his dad would have been happier if either he or Colin stayed with the dairy. Although, he was certain that his dad was proud of him anyways.

"Not really, but the flash can startle them, especially at night. One tipped over once and Colin had to wake dad up to help him get it standing again," he said. He gave his girlfriend a frown as she talked about her parents. Did the realize how special she was? There wasn't another bid like her and there never will be.

"Have you looked for a place yet? I mean, you talked about it," he said. "How's it going at the Leaky? Did you talk to the woman in charge of the Magical Menagerie?"

Orla giggled. Inadvertent cow tipping. She wasn't entirely surprised. "And did you ever tip any cows?" She tilted her head at him.

"No, I wanted to be sure about where I was going. I mean, the possibility of the Snidget Preserve would mean I'd live there, so for now, I'm saving. For whatever happens. I'm at the Leaky so much they rarely see me at home." And it was better that way. "I haven't, mostly because Tom's giving me more to do besides bus tables. I get drinks on occasion, help with dishes and such back in the kitchen." She shrugged and smiled. "No one's been a bother, and the waitstaff know me pretty well by now, so I'd hate to leave them shorthanded. Maybe if Tom cuts my hours."

Shaking his head, Dennis told her no. "It is really bad for the cows and these creatures are our livelihood. Once or twice some of the more drunken blokes from the University as come down and tried, but they usually made too much noise and chased the cows off."

He really did try not to frown, but he still didn't like the idea of Orla work at the Leaky. Although, he did understand her reason for staying. Not all surprised that Orla was working more hours, he nodded, changing the subject. "So, do you think it might be time for me to meet them? Your parents."

Orla frowned, upset to think of the idea of someone hurting the cows like that. Accidents were one thing, deliberately doing something like that was another.

She saw the look on his face, and gave him a squeeze. She knew he didn't like it, but wasn't arguing with her. She wanted to enjoy their time together, and not fight about her job.

She gave a sigh, smiling ruefully. 'Yeah, think so. Though part of me thinks you'll spend one hour with them and be ready to wash your hands of me."

Dennis turned Orla in his arms and looked down at her. "There is nothing in this world that could ever make me wash my hands of you," he said. "Besides, they couldn't possibly be worse then the Carrows."

She grinned up at him, reaching up on tiptoe to kiss him thoroughly. She hadn't experienced the Carrows, but she'd seen the scars and heard the stories. "I'd brave Azkaban again to stay with you." She murmured, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Dennis' arms instinctively wrapped around her, holding her close as they snogged. "You'll never have to go back there," he whispered back, kissing her again. Groaning, as he kissed her, Dennis broke off and nudged her away. He blush at her, mumbling an apologizing; his desire for her was beginning to show.

"When would be a good time to meet them?"

Orla flushed as he let go of her, more because she hated feeling like she was teasing him. He had a more noticeable and difficult reaction to the feelings they created than she did, though no stronger. She felt shy at times, but there was no denying the heat he stirred in her.

"Um, let me check. Probably on a Saturday." She wouldn't subject him to a full evening, but thought tea might work. "If you're not busy then."

Dennis needed a moment before he could move on; when he could, he took hold of her Orla and walked her away from the barn towards the backyard. "I'm sure I can work something out with Dad. Plus I can apparate, so it will be easier to get home when I need to be back in time." he said with a shrug. "Should I bring them something? I can bring some cheese and crackers."

He was nervous about meeting her parents. He had never met a bird's parents before, so he didn't have any idea what was expected of him.

"That'd be good. Some cheese from the dairy, or something like that. The work of your hands. Mum would appreciate that." Be a sign he could provide even beyond his magical interests. Which would likely startle her parents, but oh well.

She gave him a squeeze as they walked back to the house. "I'll set something up, yeah?"

Dennis nodded, making a mental note to talk with his mum about an appropriate selection of cheeses. "Yeah," he said, squeezing her back.

"I hope they like me," he said in a whispered. Meeting the parents was a big deal, but Dennis had a feeling meeting the parents of a witch, even if they were muggles, was going to be far more nerve wracking.
