Apparating to the Leaky Cauldron, Harry decided instead of having a drink, he would wander about in the Alley a bit and try to clear his head. He didn't need to brood, but he was feeling particularly annoyed after his examination by a relatively young healer at St. Mungo's just an hour or so earlier.

The young, blonde thing had taken her sweet time looking over his forehead and couldn't stop staring at his chest while she ran through her tests. He thought she kept him longer than need be and asked him far too many questions for his comfort. He looked at her crossly when she inquired about his romantic life and said he didn't see how any of that was her business.

"Don't you worry. I'm not going to tell anybody anything, you know. Strictly for your file," she said with a surreptitious smile.

He shot her a look.

"I'm not currently involved," he responded, pointedly. "Was there anything else you needed?"

Harry felt as if she was a large mosquito buzzing about his ear.

"No, that will be all," the healer responded, grinning like a buffoon.

Harry shook it off and headed out into the street. Sun shining, he felt a little better already. Maybe if he walked a bit longer, he could shake off the entire thing.

There was still so much to do, but Harry didn't want to face it all just yet. He and Hermione had been busy with the house and he had procrastinated finishing up his application for the Ministry until he'd gone to the hospital, justifying it by telling himself he might not even be fit enough to apply for the training program. He was wrong. The healer told him he was completely in line with what the Ministry was looking for.

Now Harry couldn't put it off much longer, he had to get his letters of recommendation set, his NEWT scores sent, and, of course, his essay. He had already written his essay and the parchment was rolled up on his desk, waiting to be shipped off with his scores and health records. He had owled Arthur the day before asking for a letter of recommendation (as Ginny had suggested) and had somehow convinced McGonagall to write him a letter, as well. He'd like to have had a third, but wasn't sure who to ask. He hated thinking he'd ever need to owe Slughorn anything, so opted not to ask him for one.

As he passed Gringotts, it dawned on Harry who else he could ask for a letter. He would write to Elphias Doge. He didn't know Doge well, but he was part of the Order, a good friend of Dumbledore's, and had been part of Harry's guard on his trip to London in his fifth year. He was also a special adviser to the Wizengamot, so his word would be valued in the Ministry.

Feeling better in the fresh air and with his decision made, Harry continued down the Alley.
