The rings were spots of cold in the middle of his palms; taking in all that remained of winter from the flat. The run off from thawing hearts. 'I was wondering when you'd remember to say it back. Tea cake tariff! Happy Valentine's Percy!' The stone grew warm by degrees as Percy imagined them absorbing their individual anxieties-- Cho's confusion and Percy's uncertainty. When Percy could barely feel them in his hands anymore, he shivered at the resonance the metal in the stone was having with the nervous current running through him since last night.
'I'll make sure there's a point.'
With an unsteady sigh, Percy surged to his feet from the edge of the bed, examining and straightening his dress robes in the mirror. He'd woken to find that set lain out, his best, and it occurred to him in a detached sort of way that he and Cho were so far from 'fools, having a party' it was laughable.
Unless it was one of those perpetual parties, the kind he caught glimpses of through the windows of an Irish pub. No one remembering how it began and not caring when it ended. The thought drew a smile to Percy's face as he fiddled with his still-wet hair.
"Here we go, Percy old boy. Courage man, courage." Flicking a single mote of dust that had settled on his lapel, Percy set off down the hall.
"How to I look, love?" he asked, heading towards the kitchen where the plates from breakfast were already washed and away.
