"My son is a fine young man, and I will not have a word said against him!" Lucius snapped. He knew he should have kept calm, but that was the last straw. Sly dig after sly dig had been aimed at Draco, and Lucius had studiously ignored every one, but his patience had worn thin when the comments had become more blatant. Lucius wondered if perhaps he had not been waiting for the chance to tell this particular business associate what he could do with his fatuous opinion of his son.
Said business associate looked Lucius up and down; Lucius held his gaze, his eyes narrowed slightly. If this was an attempt to intimidate him, or embarrass him, it was not going to work.
"Then I suppose you will no longer want me to recommend that you be appointed as a director to my company?"
Lucius was tempted to roll his eyes. Threats. Bloody wonderful.
"Not particularly, no. I cannot say I am particularly fond of the idea of working with anyone who insults my son,” he replied. It was hardly as if he needed the job, and the company would lose more than he personally would.
Lucius' associate snorted derisively. "Insults? I didn't insult him, all I did was call him a blood traitor. Which he is, as you well know, Lucius."
It took all of Lucius' reserve for him not to draw his wand. In the middle of Diagon Alley, that would not be wise, and he knew they were attracting attention already by arguing, but hearing those words again had pushed him too far.
"And I told you I would not have a word said against him," Lucius hissed, unable to stop himself advancing on his associate. "Regardless of what he does, he is still my son, and a decent young man, and I will not have you disparaging him. Do I make myself clear?"
His associate took a step back, obviously startled, but said nothing. Instead, he looked Lucius up and down again and shook his head as if gravely disappointed before turning and walking away.
Lucius had to resist the urge to glare at several nosy onlookers as he stalked down the alley. The next person to call his son a blood traitor was not going to be as lucky as his former business associate had been.
