Gwenog placed a kiss on Alicia's temple and squeezed her hand, then opened up her parents front door.
"Ma," she called out, "Da, we're here."
She and Alicia went through the door and into the sitting room, where her father was, very typically, sitting in his favourite chair reading and smoking a cigar. His square face and strong jaw were distinctive, but Marty Jones had kind eyes and, when he heard his daughter enter, he put down his book and stood to greet her. He kissed her on the cheek, then greeted Alicia with a hearty handshake.
"Welcome to our home, Alicia," he said.
