Side note: Marriage Is a Great Institution is up at SIYE, right here.

So here's my Draco drabble. (Ahh, alliteration!) I don't usually write Draco. In fact, I don't think I ever have, so this is very new for me! But, well, there's a first time for everything.

Title: Strength
Summary: "Draco Malfoy knew that he was not as strong as his father, and that he probably would never be."
Rating: PG-13. (It might be PG, but I'm playing it safe.)
Word Count: 245
Notes/Warnings: Violence. No shipping.

Strength

Draco Malfoy knew that he was not as strong as his father, and that he probably would never be, but he had always thought he could come close-that he could incinerate a village with only the slightest nausea, that he could Crucio an old man without thinking about it again. Perhaps he would never quite get the sadistic pleasure his father did out of torturing people, but one didn’t need to love it to be able to do it, and do it well.

But one day his father brought home a little Muggle girl. She couldn’t have been older than nine or ten, and she still wore her hair in pigtails, and she was still naïve enough to think that they were going to let her go in the end. Lucius grew bored with her terror quickly-ten-year-olds were afraid of everything, he said. It meant nothing that she feared him.

Draco knew from the challenging look in his father’s eyes that this girl was going to be his test. Hating himself for feeling sick at the thought, he tried to put it off, but he was Draco and his father was Lucius, so of course he failed.

The girl shrieked, and Draco knew that her scream would haunt him for years, would drive him insane eventually. Her eyes were wide and her throat was cold and he could not be weak.

When he had to break her neck, he cried for days afterward.
