Wow! Crazy!!

So I was just now writing something with a pencil and I was impressed by the simplicity with which I formed a word from nothing.

Writing, like most other concepts, is pretty damn impressive if you think about it hard enough. I guess this is pretty much the same as saying your name (or any word) over and over until it sounds silly or seems to kind of lose its meaning. I was originally just going to post about how impressed I am by writing, which seems to be about the same as someone asking..
Q. Have you ever really looked at your HANDS?
(A. Dear God no! Do you know what I do with these things? Unspeakable. Filthy!)
..I'll use this to segue into something I think about in my linguistics class from time to time.

SEGUE'd

So language! It has all these rules and variations and it comes from somewhere. English, German and other Germanic languages belong to the Indo-European Languages (along with Indian, Iranian, Slavic languages, Romance languages, and Latin), but who were these dudes and what were they speaking? How did this develop since they certainly didn't get it written in stone from above. This leads me to my point of how I am kind of two minds on such a thing. Let's go with the bad one first so I can end on a more awesome note.

Bad/Worrying: Language is all just made up of arbitrary rules which don't really mean anything at all.
Good/Reassuring/Inspiring: Man crafted order from chaos with language. Totally rad!

Obviously, I prefer the latter to the former, but the former chimes in every once in a while. Kind of like the little reminders one gives themselves every once in a while that say "You are going to die". Thanks, fucker, I know that already. Maybe you could remind me of some other things like telling me to floss before I am already in bed or make sure to go to the bank while I'm in town so I don't have to take the tram back and forth in order to go shopping.
