National Immigrant Heritage Month 2021
In June, we celebrate National Immigrant Heritage Month. In his proclamation, President Biden reminds us all that “America is, always has been, and always will be a Nation of immigrants.”
From its very founding, the United States was never a land of just one people. It was a land of many people uniting to form one nation. This essential and indisputable fact, coupled with America’s innate promises of freedom and equality, defines us as a country.
I remember looking down on Earth from space and seeing no borders. It gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to be American - and what it means to be human. There is so much more that unites us than divides us. We are all in this together.
When we recognize this, it frees us to embrace and celebrate what makes us different. This is how we unite.
