-First Impressions-
When I sit here and think about how I got into all this, it's one of those domino effects that just snow-balled into this great feat of motivation.
Nelia always talked about wanting to do walks for causes greater than ourselves. She used to do them relatively consistently, for causes such as MS.
Although I admired her for this noble hobby, I, on the other hand was more intrigued about the marathon factor of the experience - wanting to explore the limits of my physical capabilities for a great cause while really setting my mind to something, training and following through..I guess to prove to myself that I could do it...
Nelia started team Dori, and my plan was to be her biggest cheerleader, I never even thought to consider myself capable of doing the 60-mile walk. I just wanted to support my friend.
My vow to her was to help her with her fundraisers and cheer her on throughout her journey.
The thought of participating myself crept up on me, and being the over-analytical planner that I am, I hesitated..and thought...and analyzed...and this..and that...
But now that I've made the committment and with each day that draws nearer to the walk and our fundraisers, I am growing stronger in my convictions.
I am proud to walk in representation of ALL cancer victims, fighters, and survivors. I hope that my selflessness and well as other participants' can motivate others to participate, contribute, and fight toward a cure.
Walking in memory of Dori, my Uncle Luis and all other effected friends and family is worth all of the blisters and shin splints in the world...let the training and fundraising begin!!
