I knew that it was bound to happen, but I still flipped out when I went to the Phantom of the Opera page on ffnet (for the first time in months) only to find that it had been over run by fics about the new movie. The movie is a mutilated version of a musical which is a mutilated version of a book. Those fics probably have nothing in common with the original story. Most phans realized that the movie would spawn fans (I won't even honor them with the 'ph') that begin all of their fics with the phrase "OMG1!!!1! GERRY IS TEH SMEX!1!!" It's still painful to see.
But I have to admit, it seeing Gerard Butler in a Zorro mask grinding with Emmy Rossum while singing a pseudo opera song was almost worth it.
