Woo hoo! I have just cast off the lacy scarf after working on it this afternoon & all night, apart from breaks for Dr Who & the Iron Chef. It's looking pretty good. I am pleased with it, & I hope my friend will be too. All I have to do tomorrow is weave the ends in and sew the amethyst-like beads onto the strips of stocking stitch at either end. Pics up soon.
Today was a busy day. I walked 3 kms this morning (I know this because I bought a tiny pedometer yesterday). I went to the park with the lake, & was delighted to see there ARE two black swans, & as I had hoped, one had been hiding in the reeds. Today they were both out in the middle of the lake, with five fluffy grey cygnets. Of course i didn't have my camera - I had gone for a brisk walk, & I slow down if I'm armed. I'll take it with me tomorrow morning.
Also today I made a large quantity of borscht, an effort that took most of the day. I didn't intend to make a large quantity, it's just that borscht, like pea & ham soup, is impossible to make in small quantities. So I have 3 litres in the freezer, I had two bowlsful for dinner tonight, & there's at least two more bowls in the pot. It was not quite as I had expected - it's a long time since I'd made borscht & this was a slightly different recipe, but it was pleasantly sour & sweet as well as beetrooty. Leben yoghurt took the place of sour cream very well, even with a much lower fat content1
While the soup was simmering, I vacuumed, with a large, heavy & powerful vacuum cleaner I'd borrowed from a friend. This had a power head - little power leads running from the body of the vac, so when you turned it on it sounded like a hovercraft, & had fabulous suction. It was very heavy though, so I was pretty whacked when I'd finished & was glad to sit down & get on the with the scarf.
Tomorrow I shall get back to the other scarf - the one with the annoying yarn - & also look at the winter hats I'm doing for the grand-daughters - surely they can't take as long as a pretty, fiddly, lacy scarf!
