Great yarn - a knitting story

Mar 31, 2008 22:03

idlewild sent me a stash of beautiful silk/cotton blend yarn in a very soft heathery mix that looks like a fawny grey, but on closer inspection is pastel mauve, green and wheat twisted together. She had even wound it into balls for me - very professionally, so I assume she has some sort of nifty winding gadget.

The yarn arrived just before I went to Melbourne for Easter*, & when I came back I had work, work, work, and then a friend staying for the weekend, so last night was my first chance to play with it. I swatched the 4" square & it came out right first time.

My weekend visitor loved the yarn as much as I do (i didn't know she was a knitter), & she also highly approved of my choice of pattern - another find of Idle's: Kepler.

Tonight, I started after dinner, & I'm very pleased that I managed 7 rows of the cable pattern (after a couple of false starts). I haven't knitted anything with cables for at least 15 years, certainly nothing as complicated as this Celtic knot pattern, & I've never followed a chart before. So I am feeling chuffed!

* I took lots of photos - the family-only ones are already up on Flickr - the more artistic ones might get a showing here in the next few days.
