He's alive? Maybe?

Hmmm. Guess I am still alive. Here's an update for the two or three people on LJ who ever seem to care.

Started a major woodworking project, a pair of thrones for the local SCA Barony. It's stalled, largely because I am doing it for cost of materials, and I can't front the several hundred dollars needed for the wood. They will repay me for the materials... but... maybe a few weeks after the things are done? Sorry. I can't afford that. Can't seem to get any enthusiasm for the project, either. I bought some wood, to start the panels. Not enough to finish them, by any means. Carving the linnenfold panels for the thrones has turned out to be a real bitch. A lot more effort than I though it would be. And I need 8 of them. Meh. The rest should be fairly easy for me, but if I can't get the panels done, I can't do it. Seriously considering dropping the project, and refunding the small amount ($40 or so) they paid so far for the wood.

I'm still running the local SCA Archery practices, every Sunday, weather permitting. Maybe 5 to 7 people show up and actually shoot each week, including my daughter and myself. Mostly just my family and two other families. Hardly seems worth spending the gas, some weeks. On the other hand, I'm getting lots of practice, and my own shooting is improving immensely. A week or so ago I scored a perfect round. Six bull-seye's in a row, hitting a 5" circle on a 36" target at 20 yards. With a crossbow that has no sights on it. First time I have ever scored a perfect 30 with no sights. And I even had several witnesses! Got pictures, but haven't been able to develop them yet.

I've started playing in the Second Life on-line MMRPG, as Starchaser Webb. It's fun, but it's also a massive time sucker. I'm spending 5 to 6 hours a day playing there, and am starting to sell stuff in-world in ways that make real money. Making wings and other things that people will buy, and starting to get into building more copmplex things. Can't seem to find a market there for my art, but people like what I build, and are at least willing to pay small amounts for that. If I can get into sim design and helping to build large areas of the game, I could pick up a few hundred dollars for a major job, after converting game money to real dollars. But jobs like that are rare. Most things, like the wings I made, only sell for what amounts to a dollar or so per set.

*sigh*
