The second time she woke up, CHELL found herself in a glass cage being greeted by a strange voice with all the sentiments of ice.
”Your re-calibration results have been processed, and we are now ready to begin the test proper.”
She thought she remembers having been woken up once, before, a long time ago, but try as she might she could not find any record of the event. Not even a time stamp exists in her to validate the feeling of distance between now and then.
”Basic testing information have been downloaded into your instructions database. Please consult it for answers to any questions during tests.”
CHELL thought she remembers a beautiful voice, from that time.
”Before we begin, the Enrichment Center would like to remind you that any and all reactions to stimuli are only responses produced by your programming, and we strongly advise that you reserve your processing power for testing rather than questioning your own purpose.”
A voice she was supposed - programmed - to love, once upon a time.
”Failure to do so will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your testing records.”
A voice entirely unlike the cold one bearing down at her now, from a speaker in the cage of glass.
The Enrichment Center wishes you the best of luck.

Never would have imagined I could get a fill so quickly! And I absolutely LOVE your idea about CHELL being a 'daughter' of Caroline's. It just fits right into the whole twisted canon of the entire thing. It's brilliant. I don't know how I can thank you.
It's ok- I'm more of an artanon myself, so I know how you feel. ^^

This is fabulous so far. CHELL's bewilderment is really believable and kind of endearing. And even though Caroline is still the antagonist here, I have quite a bit of sympathy for her. It's one of those situations where you want a character to do the right thing, but know that they probably won't, and those are always enjoyably maddening. I already can feel for the characters and you've only got the first bit out!

Just poking my head in to say this isn't abandoned. There's just some pesky irl shit going on. Hopefully it'll clear up by next week.
