It's apparently been announced that when the next season of Doctor Who debuts, it'll be simulcast in the US on BBC America. (No word on whether that'll be the case for subsequent episodes) And, it appears the 2017 special, Twice Upon A Time, will be released on UHD BluRay! I'm not clear yet whether it was actually produced in 4K, or if it's simply ( Read more... )

Unfortunately I missed O8 in the local theater, so I'll have to wait for it to hit Netflix, HBO, or Amazon as I cancelled the Hulu subscription.

We saw both Ant Man & Wasp and Increbibles 2 a couple of weeks ago, enjoyed both very much. Might get out for Equilizer 2 soon, might not.

FYI, it looks like Packt Books has finally started releasing new books for their free book of the day. They went through a space of 2-3 months where I was lucky to get more than four a month of their free releases being something that I didn't already have.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, TBH. ^_^ It's a very good script, but it's the screen chemistry that really make it sizzle; suffice to say, Autostraddle was all over it. =:)

If only some of these competing TV services could cooperate! It's getting a bit much, and it's only set to get worse, with everyone asking for $10+/mo for their own distinct offerings. Still, that's why the digital gods bestowed BitTorrent upon us. =:)

Oh, cool beans! I admit, i haven't checked there in a while now - no particular reason, though the friction of the captcha might've contributed - it's one thing to have to go through that once, but two, three, even four times? (If only O'Reilly hadn't gone the subscription-only route.. reminds me, I need to keep an eye out for a good iOS 12 title - there's presumably got to be one or two, even if only in a pre-release state)

My personal morning habit is I load an f*tonne of web comics to read over breakfast, and that includes Packt, so it's easy for me. As far as the Captcha is concerned, which I agree is a PITB, the thing to do before clicking on the 'get this book' button, is to reload the page! 95%+ of the time I ever get the 'solve the Captcha' requirement.

One thing that I hate about lots of streaming services is that they don't offer subscriptions if you don't have a cable or satellite provider! So if you are a cord cutter, you can't get certain programming, such as BBC America or Fox Sports. I almost missed the final of the World Cup, except I was able to get a trial of Fubo for the last game. I'm not sure how I'll be able to get the Women's World Cup.

You might want to look at betas for Big Nerd Ranch books, they seem to be pretty prompt on new Apple OS releases, they might have one brewing.

TV distribution problems may make it difficult for us to watch Jodi in Doctor Who, which will make me very unhappy. Might have to wait for the DVD release, I don't know if Amazon will be carrying them promptly on Prime. BBC America is one of those who wants you to have a cable subscription for their Apple TV app. Supposedly BBC was going to release a full BBC TV app for Apple TV, but that was going to be last September, and I've never seen it.

It baffles me when I see channels tie themselves to cable packages like that. I presume it's a contractual obligation, or there's some hefty benefit in providing exclusivity, given it's fairly common outside HBO and.. are they the only ones selling access per se?

Mm, I recall seeing something about a proper BBC app for Apple TV.. I'll maybe go sniff around a bit - perhaps someone on Reddit or the Mac Rumors forum knows. Would be fun to find it appearing in some kind of combo Apple TV subscription plan, when they're ready to launch their own original programming - they won't have nearly enough to launch a full channel, after all, whether scheduled or purely asynchronous, à la Netflix, so some kind of other catalogue would seem all but essential, unless they wind up offering some other kind of bundle, like some kind of news offering with the likes of the WaPo and Grauniad, and magazines - there was that mag subscription company Apple bought up a year or so back, after all. I'll be interested to see just what they do offer - the current ( ... )

How do you arrange your comics reading? I use a combination of OmniWeb's "workspaces" feature, basically permitting taking a snapshot of windows/tabs for easy reloading, or simply leaving them there, just away from the usual stuff, augmented by Vienna, my long-time RSS reader, keeping me subscribed to various less regular comics ( ... )

I currently load 61 tabs of various things, and actually I do it in the simplest way possible. I'm running Firefox 61, I just open a new page and tell it to open all in new tabs and let them load while I'm warming up my oatmeal and getting my drinks. I really don't care whether or not something has refreshed: if it hasn't, I close it, if it has, I read it.

I recently purged a couple that I just had lost interest in and added one or two. My oldest stalwarts would be Wired and Slashdot, for comics it'd be Dilbert and Kevin & Kell, and I'm actually still reading User Friendly, even though it's been in repeats for years.
