Animaniacs is (are?) returning! Amblin and Warner have apparently landed an order for two seasons, to be produced for Hulu. "In addition to announcing the new series, Hulu and Warner Bros. Well, the best kind I've had was home-baked. :) Other than that, I'm a fan of this right now. It's very nice with orange marmalade (for which I recommend Wilkin's & Sons' Tiptree 'Tawny' Orange, BTW).
Funny, isn't it, when the words of politicians are applied directly to them.. =:)
It is, rather... mind, that article is from 2002
But even taking into account that it was written sixteen years ago - people - elected public officials in fairly elevated positions, no less, who you'd think would be concerned about such things as susceptibility to blackmail - put credit card statements, email print-outs etc. in their mail, unshredded?
Even the defense attorney they quote remarks on that point, saying 'if garbage is up for grabs, "There will be identity thieves lining up out there on every garbage day, knowing they can [take trash] with impunity."'
Of course, that is surprisingly naive itself. Does he believe that would-be identity thieves have so far been sitting around doing nothing, on the assumption that their actions would be illegal? Does he believe that if the ruling holding them illegal stands, they will throw up their hands and give up again?
If that strategy worked, maybe we should just make it illegal to commit crimes...!
Jokes aside, what I never quite understand about these things is why the police are so adverse to simply going to a judge and asking for a warrant if they want to snoop on people. Call me a cynical old bastard, but I don't believe most judges won't just rubberstamp all but the most egregriously baseless requests anyway.
As for this particular story... at least the DA was a good sport about the whole thing. :)
And some of the things they found are quite amusing. Like this:
A copy of U.S. Mayor (a monthly magazine devoted to mayors).
I really shouldn't be surprised that there is such a thing, should I?
Apparently, Alan Alda met his future wife at a mutual friend's dinner party, "when a rum cake accidentally fell onto the kitchen floor, they were the only two guests who did not hesitate to eat it".
And I bet their house is so clean you can eat right off the kitchen floor! ;P
