All is not Fair in love and war....
Specifically, all is not Zack Fair.
Now, I don't know what put this thought into fans' heads but Zack is not cool and/or sexy. At all. And this article, Square's Final Frontier from Edge Magazine sets the record straight with one simple sentence - Zack seems to be a poor copy of Cloud. Of course! It's all so simple now! Adorably badass Zack, whom Cloud took his FFVII persona from, is very obviously a copy of everyone's favorite angst-ridden hero! Thanks so much for that revelation, Mr. Totally-Not-A-Cloud-Fanboy-With-His-Head-Up-His-Ass!
And it really is not like Zack is bisexual godsend who is so much fun no matter what gender he's flirting up. I mean, we all know that he is AERIS' boyfriend and that is the be and end all of pairings for him. (Nothing against Zack/Aer! I think it's damned cute in a sweet puppy love way) It's not as though promotional material alone has made the relationship between him and Angeal to be questionable - There was no subtext in Zack hugging the man with the exclamation of "DAISUKI ANGEAL!!" or Tabata himself describing Angeal as "Zack's mentor who he adores" because that's explicitly gay.
And we all know that there would never be anything between Zack and the SOLDIER First Class Sephiroth. Because it's not like, you know, they get assigned to missions together or anything. Same thing with the blond chocobo-head Zack copy-cats from - Do not believe Last Order's lies! And of course, people who pair him up with members of the Turks are just delusional - There is no way that Zack and Reno would have tons of fun together, or that he and Tseng would wind up in a compromising position during a mission.... not to mention that his flirting with Shisune means nothing...
Finally, to involve Zack with any other characters, major or minor, is just silly. It's not like Zack/Tifa is adorable and Zack would look smoking hot with either Sebastian or Essai. Both of whom need love like now. Yes, I know that we don't have BC here, but read the scripts at Gunshot Romance and see how sweet and tragic these guys are.
So really, Zack is totally not a bisexual hottie who goes well with more characters than should be legal. Seriously.
