When he had seen them walk away in the church, Cloud had never expected to see either of the pair again, and that hurt him. Even as he smiled for them, he wanted to scream.
It wasn't fair. It really wasn't fair at all. Sephiroth got to come back. He got to come back. They had shoved him right back into reality. But all they got was this little chance to say goodbye. Zack never even got to speak, and Cloud had never really known Zack to shut up.
It had taken almost a year, but he and Tifa had finally gotten into gear and actually were together. The kids were thrilled, he was home more, and there was more of a feel of "family" about them.
Cloud had never expected the dreams. His nose buried in brown hair that smelled of flowers, or black spikes that tickled Tifa's neck. The feel of strong arms around him, and slender fingers scritching down a slim back.
He didn't know what had caused them, but it was almost embarrassing to wake up in the mornings and feeling aches and seeing marks that really shouldn't have been there.
Thankfully, he wasn't the only one. Tifa seemed rather flushed most mornings, and they were both getting rather lazy about getting out of bed anymore.
Neither of them had known what to think. It couldn't have been real, right?
Only, why did they remember the same things? And Cloud knew there was no way Tifa should have known some of the scars Zack had, which she could describe clearly. Just like there was no way that he should have known some of the marks Aeris had, but Tifa knew from the times the girls had shared a bathroom.
Aeris had laughed at him when he had said, very stubbornly, "This can't be real."
She had kissed the tip of his nose and gave him a very simple answer. "It's as real as you want it to be, Cloud. But you are stuck with us, so might as well enjoy it, hmm?"
Cloud was sure he could have come up with some type of answer, but that was when Zack had pounced him and shown Tifa where all his ticklish spots were.
