The Emperor's New Clothes

Or perhaps, Dressed to Impress? Alatan's New(d) Year? laridian just posted about the Mother of All Wardrobe Misfunctions. All I can say is that I expected this outfit to be the most risqué pic of the day.

Yes, it's supposed to look like that. I was playing around with some of the more outre options in the item store, and... I can't even imagine Al wearing this as a Halloween costume.

I feel compelled to add: everything in this post is SFW.

On New Year's Eve, as we were preparing to log off for the night, I decided to show off the Illuminati uniform Al had just earned. Johnny Pandemic had just received the mission for which this is a reward, and I knew he'd been after a gas mask.

(Left to right: iceraptoress's Crash Capello, Alatan looking like a kid playing dress-up, and Laridian's Johnny Pandemic.)

it was when I switched her back to her regular clothes that things got weird: on my screen she was still fully dressed, but for everyone else, it went NSFW in a hurry. This picture's from when Laridian had moved Johnny over so she could take screenshots, because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. (As you can see, the only thing that looked strange from my end was Johnny getting too close to that Doberman.)

Everyone looks in character here: teenage Johnny getting an eyeful, Crash glaring at him in disgust, and Al either oblivious or steafastly ignoring them both, depending on whose game you're watching. (Yes, this image shows the minimum clothing Al actually wore during this whole surreal scene.)

Also, all those jokes we've made about dimensional travel adding 20 lbs.? This is the third world Al's lived in. Clearly any extra weight is very strategically placed.

I had just gotten my screenshots working that night. (The program I use for taking screenshots with Sims 2 does not play nice with TSW. In the end, I figured out I needed to use TSW's build-in screenshot function. And to take screenshots during cutscenes, as I have since discovered, I have to leave the screenshot controls on their default setting, even though for me that requires a 2-button combo.) So I took lots of images from our night of gaming, just to practice the camera controls and learn what makes for a good image from this game. Here, Al shows off her ability to sleep anywhere, even under a park bench. (Crash was placing feathers in some elaborate pattern just off-screen. They didn't need her, unless the birds suddenly swarmed.)

Even with a fully functioning Window-style mouse with a click-wheel, it's easier to get images of other people's characters in TSW than of your own. Under the cut are some images of Crash and Johnny.

Of these three characters, Crash is the only one the one-body-type-fits-all really fits. (I'm sure Crash would think that was natural and just.)

Johnny doesn't look overweight or anything, but he's brawnier than a skinny hipster ought to look.

They went traipsing about in the woods, looking for ritual bonfires. I thought Crash looked nice here, even with the odd shadow on his face.

Here you can really see Crash's swordplay in action! (This is from the OMG Nude Zombie-Fighter! sequence.)

And a couple extra pics of Johnny, since TSW's camera controls don't play nice with Laridian's computer.

(The red cloud in that last pic is the aura from Alatan's Blood Magic. Kind of disgusting, if you think about it too much. I wish I could disable that effect, at least in screenshots.)
