Starring Johnny Pandemic, Action Hero!

(Image above, plus the next few below, were shot during a battle against the Rikti invasion. It was in this one, or one shortly thereafter, that Johnny dinged level 50, the game's maximum.)

(And if anyone's wondering, I use a Mac. My screenshot function takes images of whatever's on the screen, whereas Windows users' apparently only takes an image of what's happening in the game, and doesn't capture the user interface unless they do it deliberately. Therefore, many of my images have bits of the UI. I've cropped them out where practical, but I'm not about to do heavy graphical editing for this purpose.)

Johnny! Heroes don't shoot their teammates!

...Oh, right. We're villains. Good thing there's no such thing as friendly fire.

That's also fortunate for this drone, since the Rikti Crash is currently assassinating appears to be cleaving it in two. (Also, how the heck do Alatan's psychic attacks work against drones, anyway?)

Here's a clearer look at a Rikti conscript. The creature just past Crash in the background is a Rikti monkey. One of those will be making an unexpected appearance in a later installment.

And here's Johnny, rocking the Action Hero poses again as he practices his Gun Fu.

On a different mission now:

Ow. That must have been one heck of a bender for the hard-living Crash to be staggering that much.

Alatan, on the other hand, is a lightweight, so the fact that she's studying the pavement is no surprise.

Johnny (background) and Crash (right) were bickering in a friendly way over which of them got to take out Valkyrie. (This was a part of a series of missions directing them to "take out" various superheroes.) Crash is a womanizer with a thing for blondes, whereas Johnny's considerably nicer than he lets on, so I'm guessing Crash won. Alatan, being young and inexperienced, mostly got very quiet whenever there was any conversation of that nature.

After a defeat, the three of them had to wait for Crash to puke. That particular side effect of Johnny's mad science-derived concoction for getting allies back on their feet could be dangerous in Crash's case, since he relied on stealth to get him to strategic locations.

Al was patient. She'd been through it often enough to critique the aftertaste when Johnny tweaked the formula.

For instance, this image looked a lot creepier before I cropped the unconscious Alatan out. Johnny was coming to rez her. (I think he's selected - as shown by the green brackets - because Al was trying to cast a protective spell when she died. Not that Johnny believes in magic.)

A look at Johnny and Crash with their powers activated. These two had been partners-in-crime for a long time before Al arrived on the scene. That's some heavy-duty stealth Crash has!

And a glimpse of three villains looking more or less like normal people (ie, without powers activated). This was part of their last mission ever, and involved turning themselves in as criminals. In jail, of course, their powers are suppressed.

Left to right: Alatan, Johnny Pandemic, Crash Capello. I think they look very much like themselves, even without powers - perhaps even more so, without their usual auras. Underfed and perpetually broke street urchin; hyperintelligent hipster mad scientist; and a well-bred, well-dressed superpowered mutant? Check, check, and check.

Crash was very vocal about his displeasure for the idea of turning himself in, but it had to be done. Unfortunately, a glitch in the game meant not everyone regained powers when we were supposed to, and we weren't able to complete the mission before the game's end.

These three were the trio I spent the most time with in the game, so I thought it was appropriate to do a post celebrating just the three of them. While I initially wasn't as fond of Al as I was of my main hero-side alt, she grew on me, especially since I had two other characters to play her off of pretty consistently. I know if I'd had more time in the game, she'd have developed further. (In particular, her foot-in-mouth tendencies would have mellowed - especially as she discovered that, while Crash either respected her nasty-sounding quips or saw right through them to the scared kid they were meant to hide, Johnny genuinely disliked them. Gaining a bit of self-confidence would have helped as well.) Still, I'm happy with what I was able to do with her, both as a character and as my avatar in this game, in the time I had.

If I had any visual art skills to speak of, I'd try to use some of these images as references to make some fan art.
