Adventures in Cosplay: Volume 1

So I've been trying to break into cosplay. Yeah yeah, before you break out into a mob, I don't weigh like 400 pounds. I won't blind people if I try to cosplay. Now that that's out of the way, lets get to the BREAKDOWN~

One cosplay I've been planning is Aeris Gainsborough. Also, a fun-fact for the road: Firefox didn't spellcheck Gainsborough. Anyway, for the most part, I've got the costume more or less complete - according to the bits and pieces I'd need. To go from head to toe:

Hair
For the hair, what I'll need is the ability to adequately put my hair into a ponytail, and some aquanet for my bangs. After that's done, I would need a ponytail from Amphigory - the Eden drawstring one, to be specific. Then I'd get some curly extensions from that one wig place I don't remember the name of. Relatively simple, considering her hair is brown, as is mine.

Hair Accessories
For the accessories, all I really need is the bow. But for the pickier cosplayer, I need a huge green ball. Luckily~~ I have obtained one. A huge, glass, cats' eye marble, about 40mm around - I forget what it is, exactly. Note to self, fire out how to drill through glass, so's I can tie it around my ponytail.

Necklace
The necklace is and was something akin to a cakewalk. I bought some jewelry stuff and made a couple leather clasp necklaces. Not like it wouldn't be hidden behind the giant ponytail anyway, so I figured that would just be that much easier. Plus they're separated, which makes it easier to switch between Aeris VII and Aeris AC, which I sort of plan to make this costume be able to do.

Jacket
The jacket is the one thing I thought would be tricky. But luckily I found a jacket that was the perfect size for like, ten bucks. Plus I liked the jacket a lot, so I bought two. But I don't think the way I cut the sleeves worked, so I'm probably gonna have to make my own. But I could use the one I cut up as a pattern, I guess.
HOWEVER, there's one thing I plan for the jacket, and it is this - the ability to switch between specific Aerises. To do this, I want to sew on the little belt loops to hold the little belt-y things, and then hide some snaps under them. Those snaps would then attach to the metal (read: craft foam) cuffs, thereby giving the jacket the ability to switch. Yeah, I don't know either, but it makes more sense in my head. Go figure~

Dress
For the dress, I actually bought some bedsheets for the fabric. Kind of dumb, but OMG it's the exact color - and really soft. Since it's made to be touched for hours at a time, I'd assume it'd be rather comfortable. I bought an old Simplicity pattern, which only really needs to be modded to put in buttons, and a straight hem. Otherwise, it's spot on. Not a hard component to make, but it is if you can't sew...

Bracelets
Now see, this part was really easy if you're not picky. I went to Forever 21 and bought two sets of bracelets - they were silver, and had a hammered metal look to them. They came in three sizes per set, and looked a lot like Aeris' AC bracelets. I said fuck it and bought 'em. Easy thing is easy.

Boots
Yeah, so MUDD sells Aeris boots. Like, almost the perfect pair. I think they're discontinued now, 'cause I got mine at a shoe store in the next town over for thirteen dollars. Easy thing is easy redux.

Well folks, we'll see how this goes and omg, making icons is like really fun. Or something.

...Hee hee, block quotes are fun. Shut up.
