Lesson 9: First Lesson of the Spring Semester

Feb 06, 2007 10:16

Last Wednesday Shannon and I had our first lesson of the semester. It was so awesome, a bit chilly, but nothing we couldn't deal with. I rode AJ and she rode George. (Kate said that AJ took a break for a while and Kate is only putting select riders on her - that made me feel good.) Getting tacked up was chaos because the other horses were bring brought in and Kate was in a pretty bad mood. (Phred and Max broke through the fences into a turn out with horses they weren't supposed to be with, then ran away when she went to bring them in.)

But we finally got tacked up and went into the indoor. At first I had some issues getting back into posting, but after a few bumpy turns I finally got used to it again. AJ has such a bouncy trot so it's pretty easy to post with her.

George was being a big brat and not wanting to trot for very long and kept tossing his head. Finally Kate asked if Shannon could ride AJ and I had no issues. What was I going to say, no? Besides, Shannon has had a lot of silly horses and hasn't been able to post properly. Kate also wanted Shannon to ride AJ because she sees me going around perfectly fine and is probably getting frustrated, thinking she can't do it when really it's her horse.

Shannon being so tall looked rather silly on a pony, but she did it and she posted so well! I was so proud of her. Next time she's going to be on Danny, which will be much better for her. While Danny has the same issues as George in the fact that he doesn't like to necessarily trot right away, he keeps trotting and he has a really bouncy trot which will help her posting. (George has a nice sitting trot that you don't want to post with because it's so smooth.)
