Yes, memories do fade. Funny trick of the mind that lets us remember all the good ones and wipe away or lessen the sting of the bad ones.

But why would you want to live in memories? Remember them, enjoy them, learn from them, but don't live in them. If you feel you have not enjoyed life to the best of your ability, learn from your memories and begin to live as hard as you can.

The great things in your life are only taken away if you let them be taken away. Or, from another perspective, they are only taken away if you think they are being taken away. You cannot cling to them forever. The only constant is change. Happiness is fleeting; it is not a permanent state. You will find it in those transient moments; notice it, catch it, marvel at its wonder and then let it go. Clinging to it only lets the rot set in.

Life is ephemeral. You are ephemeral. Congratulations, and welcome to the universe. Your world is only you and what you perceive, and that dies with you. This is the fact that has plagued every single thinking person to pass through this plane of existence. Your condition is not unique. You and everything you know will die.

So run with it. Go. Live. Don't seek your happiness in memories or relationships or success or objects or freedom; these will all wither and warp and end. Find your happiness in you and the change you experience as you grow. I promise you will never have to search very far.
