"They could hear the city, evocative and strange, imminent and remote; threat and promise both -- a deep, steady sound upon which invisible lights glittered and wavered: colored coiling shapes of splendor in which already women [and men] were beginning to move in suave attitudes of new delights and strange nostalgic promises." - Faulkner, Sanctuary
And her time has run out.
With the clock having freshly struck twelve, she finds her gown trailing behind her
sopping wet and weighing her down.
New Orleans will be sorely missed.
Her streets can be washed clean, swept away, her soul never lost to mere water.
Steady flowing.
But all a ballroom dance requires is two feet on the floor. Step lightly in the soil.
Lift, rise, float and land.
Use the music as an undercurrent -
listen for syncopation, strain to hear a horn in a hollow hall.
Step first with your feet, lift with your chest, rise with your heart,
use your music as an undercurrent,
find your way home.

The city takes on a new role, tonight she stars Nostalgia.
Prepare your ovation.
