I think it'd be a good idea if Brave Authors start offering themselves up to Anonymous Readers now, so that they have a reasonable chance of being able to post something during February-so it seems like a good idea to figure out what the rules for this particular challenge ought to be.
In my original February Festival post, I described the challenge thus:
Make a post to this community offering yourself as a Brave Author, and screen the comments. The *first* person to comment with three story options for you 'wins' your services, and you will write up one of these options in the earnest hope of pleasing your secret recipient. Edit your post to say, Claimed, when your recipient has commented. The resulting story should be at least 500 words in length.
I think the idea (
nopseud actually conceived it) was to do a kind of anti-Sesa, a proper story exchange. However, I've not run a story exchange before. Also, it seems probable that the people who are brave enough to sign up as authors won't necessarily have story ideas to impose on other authors, and there may well be readers out there who would love to acquire the services of a particular author.
I don't really see any other way than "author posts, the first anonymous reader to comment wins the author", but if someone can suggest a better (and simple!) solution, please go for it.
Should the anonymous reader be required to make three requests? Two? Just one? (It seems to me that the author should have some options!) Should there be any constraints on the requests? I think a maximum length of one paragraph, or maybe 100 words, ought to do it. That gives enough of a guideline to the author without dictating the entire story.
Should the minimum required story length be 1,000 words, to match SeSa?
Should the author be allowed to stipulate certain restrictions, eg no kink, nothing requiring hours of research, no historicals, no AUs? Or does the author go with what's requested, full stop?
Any other suggestions?
I'd like to get the rules sorted out within the next couple of days, so do comment with any ideas on how this ought to work.
