★ JJ Lin (album)
{ Complete JJ Lin discography @ 320kbps} Losing his voice during a concert earlier in 2009, JJ Lin retired to rest and recovery for most of 2009. He describes the night he spent in hospital because of his suffering vocal chords as a real low point and feeling like "a hundred days". I can understand how terrible it must be for an artist like JJ Lin to feel like he may never be able to sing again. His seventh album is thus titled "Hundred Days". I didn't like Sixology, but when I started listening to this latest album, I really felt that the long rest had given him clarity, inspiration and a sense of direction. I really have to talk about the song Hundred Days, because while the recording and production reminded me a bit of Wang Ji ( download here) at first, it's really a completely new kind of JJ Lin ballad. I can feel the despair, courage, and uplifting hope that he poured into the song and it's perfect for the title. Copycat is reminiscent of a number of his other songs... it's a fun, crazy, creative composition (always love it when he makes references to an older track!). This made me laugh: "...so I wanna thank my computer... because it let's me sound like a robot..." XD One By One deserves mention as well because again it's such a new style of JJ Lin ballad and though usually I wouldn't like a song like this one, I adore it. His sings this piece perfectly. I'm so happy to see he's worked on creating great melodies and working the arrangements around that. Still Moving Under Gunfire is the English-lyrics version to X but I preferred when he would include an English-lyric version of a song with a mostly piano-demo-like arrangement. Overall, an impressive album - it leans towards being a ballad album, but it's far from boring and I'm definitely feeling the music. English names are as written on the official album but not accurate translations of the Chinese titles. Songs are tagged with what I found to be the most "official titles", but there are so many versions. =X Some will need retagging if you want them to be tagged with what's most popular on LAST.FM.
