Reflection:

King Oedipus shall be remembered by all of Thebes as a great servant of the Gods that have led our nation in the right path since our last king. His bravery and courage has made him honorable to us and we will all recall his confidence in finding justice. Although his fate leaves us in sorrow, he keeps his word till the end which is to exile himself. Please be strong, children of Oedipus as we feel your suffering and mourn with you.

-sincerely a proud Theban.

Looking ahead:

In the short story "Simple Recipes" by Madeleine Thien, the "simple" recipe of making rice is like a metaphor to the simple thoughts of the young female narrator. She feels like living life each day is a ease for her when she follows her dad around the house and watches him cook in fascination. Life is easy when the balance is right. When all things come together and there's a harmonious balance just like cooking rice. The instructions are simple. However when the dynamic within their family changes after her brother got beaten. Life seems more complicated. "When I was a child, I did not love my father because he was complicated, because he was human, because he needed me to. A child does not know yet how to love a person that way." The author extends the metaphor till the end where the narrator says "A cupful of grains in my open hand, a smoothing out, finding the impurities, then removing them piece by piece." If life were like that, and if we could just pick out the impurities how simple the life recipe would be.
