Repo! The Genetic Opera - My Candid Opinion

Dec 07, 2008 20:12

My dear friend Ayrk talked me into going to see Repo! The Genetic Opera today. I was very skeptical because the trailer looked like the director tried to hard. I was totally right. This movie took itself WAY too seriously and the only good part (aside from a decent Sarah Brightman solo) were the parts where they tried to be funny. The films attempt to build tension leading up to gore fell flat by the sheer "overdoneness" of it all. At some points it was so over the top I fully expected Michael Jackson to burst on to the screen and do a little thriller number. There were gratuitous moments of sexuality that didn't add to the story line. Paris Hilton also had a staring role, the levels of lameness go on and on.

The movie did succeeded at giving a bleak hopeless picture of the world the characters lived in. I also felt bleak and hopeless half way through, thank god we went to see a matinée. My recommendation for this movie is to wait until it's in the clearance bin and then pick up a copy. Keep it in the wrapper until holloween. Then when you throw a holloween party put it on in the the background with the sound off. Never ever watch it all the way through unless you are just a masochist.

Enough horror for a while. I am looking for something a little more happy.
