my father is yuroba - which meant my name HAD to be (haha!) -- but my mother is Igbo (it's complicated. it baffles even me). i was born in Ife, near Lagos. i came to the US when i was about six to seven years old, with no trace of english in my comprehension. i hd to ESL for about a year and a half.

my came actually came unexpectedly. i was breeched, and back then in Nigeria, it was almost a death sentence. My dad was pacing the hospital hallways praying that i would b okay. my mom was a little freaked, too, b/c i was their first child. When i finally came out my Dad screamed "OLUWATOYIN! (Praise God)" and that was that.

My mother didn't want me to be referred soley as Yuroba because of my name. She was like, hey, you wanna name our daugter witha yuroba first name and last name...on no! so she gave me her middle name: Obiageli.
and beause of that decision my initials are literally:
O. O. O.

(take a deep breath)
Oluwatoyin Obiageli Odutola
(ahh....relax. *phew*)
get's me everytime, and it's my friggin' name! hahahaha!

Ok, i need to shut up now.
Enough of about me, tell me about you. hopefully your story won't be as weird as mine.
:)

But yeah im Benin i dont know any other bEnins any the one time i met someone with my last name i was sure we were related Andrea Evbu Iyekekpolo

yea, i heard.
but, no. we actually lived in CA for a while -- my dad was on a working VISA until 1994; he got offered a prof. job at Alabma A&M near huntsville, AL and so here we are.

there are actually a good number of nigerians in Huntsville, AL, where my parents are at.

it's interesting about texas. i hea so much about nigerians there...all the time.

hmm....
