Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Oh man am I sick. It all happened so fast yesterday. From just a sore throat to the whole kitten kaboodle (headache, runny/stuffed nose, etc). I think I got it from my friend Mike McCalister. The day before I got sick he mentioned he felt sick after helping out with rescuing over fifty people during the whole flood deal up in New Hope. So, anyway... physically I feel terrible. But you know what? Mentally, I feel better than I have in a long time. So many good things happened in one day that I'm not surprised I got sick, after all there had to be some bad to go with all this good.

The day before I got sick I had been running the usual routine at school. Going to class, hanging out with friends, and helping out a little bit for a club I'm in called LEAP. They organize nearly every activity that happens on campus. Guest speakers, comedians, bands, etc. That day we had a comedian named Amy Anderson I think (No relation to Louie). She was pretty funny, she's an adopted korean girl who delt with a lot of racist shit while she was growing up. Anyway, the first good thing that happened was during her show. The president of LEAP, Lorena (a very pretty girl) asked if she could talk to me for a moment. It turns out that the marketing director for the club resigned and they wanted me to take the executive position! Since I had previously run for this I gladly accepted (Plus I can tell you with no ego that I'm way better for the job than the last person was). This'll look really sweet on a resume.

About 10 minutes later I went to my next class, a seminar about using a program called mathcad. While waiting for the teacher to arrive I decided to check my e-mail. Low and behold, I got an e-mail from the acting teacher at school saying that I got a lead role for the play, The Laramie Project! Woo-hoo, I've always wanted a lead role, and after nearly three years it's about damn time. Take THAT theater majors! But then again, I did practice my ass off to get this role. I should mention, I'm just a tiny bit worried about the show being protested since a lot of close minded people consider it a play for "fag-lovers who will burn in hell". I'm especially worried since we're just two miles away from the high school that did it last year which became nicknamed "ground-zero" since it was moderately protested by people who were actaully met by counter-protesters lol. But, I believe in the play and its message so i'm prepared to accept any consequences that come along. Who knows, this may be one of the most important things I do in my life.

Okay, quick interlude before I get to the third great thing that happened that day. I ran into a new friend of mine named Katherine (I kinda like her lol) after that class and we began talking and during our little convo I mentioned the two previous things to her. She then said "You know about good things right?" Ummm... nope! So she then said "Well they usually come in sets of three." I remembered then that I had work soon, maybe the good thing was that I'd be fired haha.

Although I had no luck with getting fired, work was relatively calm. However, after arriving home from work, I got a call from Lorena (once again, the Pres. of LEAP). She had an offer for me. See, every year there is a regional business convention in Baltimore, Maryland dealing with specialty performance acts for college campuses. Turns out that this is where we get most of our activities. Guys like Joey from Full House and the cast from "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" are there along with hundreds of other people (magicians, hypnotists, dj's, you get the point). It's called the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). It's a hectic 3 day event which involves running around, networking, taking notes, deciding who/what interests you, and auctioning off past acts to other college campuses so we have money to get new acts. The 100 mph schedule can drive a person to insanity... and I've always wanted to do something like that. Only executive members can go to such an event and since I'm now the Marketing Director... hahahaha. Lorena told me about all of this and then invited me. I couldn't have been more pysched. So yeah, I'm going to be arranging every little fun thing that happens on my campus lol, and I'm only a freshman! Man, when Kathy said that thing about how "good things come in three's" she wasn't just wistlin' dixie. And you know what? For transportation, the hotel, and food how much do you think this thing would cost? You've probably guessed around the same amount I was thinking... way too much. But it only costs... (get ready for this one)... sixteen dollars. I couldn't believe it, it was to good to be true. I asked how it can be so cheap and honestly I was so happy that I tuned out everything she said but the point was that it really costs just sixteen dollars! Oh yeah, and finally... the only people that are going for now are me, Lorena and possibly another very pretty/nice girl (with fantastic breasts, no seriously) named Anne.

So what right do I have to be sad about being sick? I've been given too much to whine and bitch about having to make up 2 classes of notes and one quiz. This is the kind of stuff that I wanted to do in high school but was always to lazy or shy to even attempt. This is why I like college so much, I think I'm really starting to figure out who I am and what I want to do with my life, which by the way... is looking like it has a bright future. Later bitches (achoo!).
