Evil Author Day post 1

Because these are so short, I'm combining them into one post.

Title: Untitled Dragon AU
Notes: An SGA/Mercedes Lackey "Joust" AU.

It stormed heavily that night. They had had a weeks advance notice, so the awnings over the pens had been drawn to keep the dragons out of the rain. The ocean usually moved the city in a gentle roll, but the night of the storm Rodney felt unsteady on his feet as the floor heaved and rolled. He had stumbled and nearly fallen several times, but fared far better than some of the vendors had; their wares had slipped from the racks, fallen from their hooks, and were quickly snatched up by the street people.

Now it was night time, and the entire city was shut in, people taking shelter in their homes. Rodney had a room back with the other dragon boys, but he had no interest in being locked up with those idiots, who wouldn't know a clove hitch knot from a prusik knot. Besides, trapped inside as they were, the only talk would be of their latest conquests made in the East Pier district, and Rodney could live without hearing another exaggerated story of their various sexual prowess.

So the dragon pens it was, where the heat from the sand would fill the room and the awning would protect Rodney from the rain. That is, if he could get there without drowning. His clothes were already soaked through, his hair plastered to his head; his pants were chafing as he ran through the empty streets. He sent a brief prayer of thanks to a god he didn't believe in that he knew the city so well; navigating when he could see barely a two feet in front would be impossible, were it not for his familiarity.

Because Ellis had sent Rodney away for 'speaking out of turn, in a manner unsuitable for a dragon boy', Rodney had no assigned dragon, and therefore no specific pen to duck into. Rodney was handy with the dragons - they were fiercely intelligent, which Rodney respected, but simple in desires and needs - and he foresaw no problems convincing an unfamiliar dragon to allow him to share the pen for the night. Rodney liked the dragons, and they tended to like him back.

Rodney slowed as he passed under the large, arched doorway leading into the walled area of the pens. There were certain ones Rodney absolutely could not sleep in, as the dragon boys would be furious to find him there in the morning. Others were off limits due to the dragon riders - some were fanatical about who they allowed near their dragons, and Rodney wasn't well-liked. The last thing he needed was to end up opposite a pissed off dragon rider - as a person with no social standing, Rodney would be immediately up for punishment.

Sometimes the pens at the very, very tip were empty, due to the death of a dragon. Rodney hadn't heard of any dying recently, but sometimes it took time before there was another hatching; perhaps he'd get lucky and find a place to sleep there. Rodney's feet made wet smacking noises as he moved, the built-in drains working overtime to clear the corridor of water.

Title: Untitled Mpreg fic
Notes: Back when the mpreg big bang was having sign ups, I started thinking about how a lot of fics have John and Rodney having baby girls, and I wanted to write one where they have a boy, so I started writing one just for myself.

"I suppose it could be worse," Rodney said thoughtfully, one hand pressed lightly against his belly.

"Oh?" Teyla asked calmly, competently holding a squirming Torren. He was quite determined to wander around the room and touch things; Rodney was quite proud of his curiosity and thirst for knowledge. He could relate.

Rodney sent Teyla an amused, conspiritorial look. "Sheppard could be pregnant."

Teyla blinked at him, uncomprehending. "That would be worse?"

Rodney shrugged. "It'd be fine for the day-to-day running of things. But the first time there's a crisis? He'd want to be in the middle of it, working to save everyone. He hates making his men do things he wouldn't do himself."

Teyla's face brightened as she got it. "If he were pregnant, he would have to direct his men from afar, unable to join in the efforts."

"Exactly!" Rodney snapped his fingers and pointed at her, grinning. "It'd drive him nuts to have to stay behind and do nothing. Whereas technology is my manner of saving lives, which I can do far away from the actual danger."

"I suppose we shall feel thankful, then," Teyla said, smiling. They shared a chuckle, and when Sheppard later stopped by for a visit, he was baffled by their amused grins.
