P&R: Swings

A super short piece i wrote over on tumblr one day for saucydiva's prompt Leslie/Ann, swings.

The night before the official opening of the new park on Lot 48 (there’s an official park name for the official opening, but everyone calls it something different: “The New Pit,” “A Waste of Taxpayer’s Money,” “The Best Park Ever, Even Better Than Any Eagleton Park”), Leslie set her alarm for 3am. Ann was crossing the lawn with two mugs of coffee when Leslie pulled up to the park. After a few shoves, they decided that the concrete had set enough and it was safe to sit on the swings. Leslie took her coffee and clanked it against Ann’s mug.

“This is definitely The Best Park Ever, Even Better Than Any Eagleton Park.”

“You really did an amazing job. Even when you told me that you’d make The Pit into a park, I never thought it’d be this great.”

Leslie looked around, much of the park illuminated by the bright moon. “I did.” She smiled and turned to face Ann. “But it would have never happened without you, beautiful, beautiful Ann.”

“Oh, Leslie,” Ann said as she hugged her.

Before they finished their coffee, they tapped their mugs to the side of the swingset, careful not to break the porcelain but hard enough to christen the park with the sweet, caffeinated nectar.

Leslie sat on a swing, and spun herself around until the chains had fully twisted as Ann pushed off and looked up at the stars.

The chains started to untwist when Leslie said, “You know, I made a pinky promise to you that I’d build this - the only thing I didn’t know is that I’d also get The Best Friend Ever, Even Better Than Any Pawnee Park.”

Ann dragged her feet to stop. “That was my secret pinky promise to you.”

Leslie grinned back, “Double Secret Pinky Promise.”
