A cutscene to be posted after I get Leon Kennedy at M3. It's been running through my head all day.
Listen to this while reading it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdK9OlOzayE The cold autumn day fit Leon Kennedy's mood perfectly. Drizzly, chilly and grey, it was fairly miserable. Boots thudded on grass as he walked through the cemetary, making his way to one fresh grave. He carried no flowers for the deceased, and as far as he could tell, he was alone.
He stared at the name on the headstone for a long, long moment. Even seeing it in cold, lifeless stone it was hard to take. He swallowed with difficulty, hands shoved into the pockets of his leather jacket, wind ruffling his hair. After a moment, he nearly turns and walks away, but he stops himself. He needs this.
"Ada," he says with a scratch in his throat. "It's been a while. I've been busy, but I'm sure you know what I was up to." He sighed, shaking his head. "This... This isn't easy for me, Ada.I wasn't there when you died, and I want to say I'm sorry." He crouched, brushing a stray leaf away from the stone before resting his hands on his knees. "Remember when we first met? I was such a punk kid. You were so mysterious. So alluring. How could I not fall for you, you know? I think you knew that I did, but..."
Leon trailed off with a sigh, shaking his head. "I don't think that I ever really stopped. Being in love with you, I mean. We grew apart, you with your LEGIONS work, me with my job with Repliforce and our paths stopped crossing. I regret that. I regret that I never reached my hand out. That I never even tried to see you again. I'm sorry."
He paused then, looking upwards into the drizzly sky. "Y'know, when I first heard you'd died, I actually prayed for the first time in years. I begged and pleaded with God to make a deal with me, to let us switch places. It didn't work, but it should be me there, buried in the cold ground. I've survived so many things I've had no right to. Raccoon City. Ragnarok. Ganados. Blackguards twice. And here I sit, talking to you while you're the one who's gone. It's not fair."
He smiles a little half smile, wistful and somehow amused at the same time. "I can hear you now, telling me to shut up and keep going. I will, for you. For the people that need me." He went to rise from his crouch and paused, pulling something from his jacket pocket. It fit in the palm of his hand and gleamed gold even in the dismal light. "I almost forgot. This is for you, so you don't forget me wherever you've gone." His hand stretched out and set the object face up on the base of the stone before he rises. Leon closed his eyes for a moment, bowing his head slightly before he turned and walked away. Left behind is a badge, glittering in the rain with 'R.C.P.D.' engraved on it.
The rain stayed, but Leon felt lighter, more at peace. Ready to move on.
