I am DELIGHTED for you, madame Pope! I can't think of a nicer person to be having such a wonderful year. :)

I thought of you this summer, because I finally had money to buy s00j albums proper and I spent the summer inflicting said albums on my campers and my art assistant--the girls were ESPECIALLY partial to the Wendy Trilogy songs, and I think they left a little more savage for having heard them, which can only improve them. Every time I listened to it, I thought, "Ahhh, the Pope would approve" because you were the first to make me listen to her. :D

That is awesome. I am going to make sure she sees that. <3

:D My art assistant's favorite song was "Alligator in the House". But it became A Thing with us--whenever it came on she would flail dramatically and go "BUT WHY IS THERE AN ALLIGATOR IN THE HOUSE, THIS SONG IS CRAZY!" and the girls would all giggle madly as we "argued" about why there was an alligator in the house, and whether one could expect an alligator to have manners. The entire staff knew about the "alligator song" and would request it when they brought their kids to art, just to see our theatrics. To commemorate this madness, I found a pair of matching silver alligator necklaces. She is completely over the moon. :D

So, because of s00j and because of you (and me!) there are, oh, a couple hundred Girl Scouts (who are fierce creatures to begin with) who are going to grow up thinking about how they can run away to become girl pirates in Neverland. Oh, and whether or not it is acceptable for there to be an alligator in one's house.

That story is the best and you had best believe I'm going to make sure s00j knows it. How fantastic. Next year you ought to teach them the lost girls pirate academy Alma mater. Sisters and shipmates.

I hope she likes it. :D Her music basically defined the summer for us. NUMEROUS staff have texted me/messaged me to be all "I'M BUYING THAT ALBUM YOU MADE US LISTEN TO ALL SUMMER."

I really, really hope we have another year to warp their beautiful little minds with fairytales and ferocity. There's currently a big fight going on because the council wants to close the camp. The camp's like 80 years old, an incredibly beautiful property, utterly MAGICAL, and incredibly beloved of a ton of girls, but it doesn't make as much money as some of the others in the council. :(

Oh no! I will write a letter as a former Scout if it will help.

You were a Scout? Yet more proof of your overall flawlessness, madame Pope. :D I was not a Scout growing up, but I had to become one for the job.

Here is all of the info regarding the fight to save the camp.

The council was supposed to make a final decision sometime after the meeting in August, but I've heard nothing as of yet. Any letters, petition signatures, etc, can only help. :) Thank you, Pope.

...How do grown Scouts get re-registered, do you know? Might ought to show out for the cause.

Let's see. You can fill out the membership form at: http://www.girlscouts.org/join/adults.asp... )

Hm. I may wait until I go home permanently, so I can re-join with the council that I was under as a Scout in Nashville; I'm still in Memphis for law school, but only for another year.

I'm not sure if you have to register with a specific council or not. I don't remember that much about filling out the membership form with my employment paperwork (If you SAW the amount of paperwork I had to fill out, what with two copies of my contract and the 10,000 background checks, you'd understand completely...). But if you DO have to register with a council, I doubt anyone's going to fuss over you registering with GSMTN instead of GSHS since Nashville is technically your home.

If you ever have some free time, see if you can work a weekend at a camp somewhere near you. It is unbelievably good for the spirit...and pretty good for the bank account, too. :)

I'm still registered. :) My mother was our troop leader, and a troop leader of preceding troops before I came along. Feel free to pass that on.
Gonna get the word out about the camp.
Girl Scouts make the best and most savage Lost Girls and Pirates of all.

I did indeed pass it on...on Facebook, where all my coworkers who fell in love with you this summer could see. :) How perfect, to play music written BY a fierce Girl Scout FOR fierce Girl Scouts!

...And while I was on Facebook, one of my coworkers posted THIS from the council blog:

"GSEP said:
Please be advised that the Property Committee met this week and discussed our members questions regarding our intent to run summer programs at our camps next summer. It was decided we will continue to run outdoor program at all camps through September 30, 2012 which includes running resident/day camp at Tweedale."

I quite literally burst into tears. There must be some sort of fierce magic in the air today. We will teach our girls how to be brave, beautiful, fierce Lost Girls and Pirates for another summer yet, even if we still have to fight for the summers that will follow. I cannot express how unbelievably happy I am right now. :)

MORE LOST GIRL SCOUT PIRATES. I APPROVE OF THIS.

May I make you an S.J. Tucker Mixtape for Girl Scouts? It would be my honor. <3 I was only a Brownie, troop moved to an extremely inconvenient location for Junior Scouts, but I sold my cookies and learned my lessons in my time and I want that for other girls. And if you have to fight for the summers that follow you have a Pope (and, it seems like, a s00j) to help you. <3
