Mini ComicCon report: Part One - Nathan

May 13, 2013 14:07

I had decided several months ago to attend ComicCon this year with the Peanut on Saturday. I think I waffled until I heard Felicia Day was going to be there.

The girls were all costumed: the twins as Beeker and Rochelle Goyle (from Monster High) and Peanut as Dr. Horrible (red-coat version).

I'll try to keep this post short as I've had a request to post the Nathan/ Felicia story. This was my first ever ComicCon and I was not sure how things "worked". It was only later in the day we learned that one could stand in a line to just say hello to the celebs. You weren't required to to purchase an autograph or a picture. So towards the end of the day when our (only) panel was over, the girls wanted to continue shopping and Peanut insisted we try to see Nathan Fillion and/ or Felicia Day. We separated from the others and made plans to meet in 30 minutes (I did not think we would have any luck.)

When we arrived we were pleased to see that both were there and not only that, the lines were quite short. 2 people for Nathan and about 4 for Felecia. This was not the first signing session and it was "late" in the day so I guess many people had left.

We walked up to Nathan and he took in the Peanut's costume (that the awesome kattale helped me make).

Nathan: "Ah, so you're the EVIL Dr. Horrible, from when he joins the Evil League of Evil with Bad Horse."

Peanut: "Yes!"

Nathan: "That's a great costume you have, did you make it?"

Peanut: "No." (She was very excited and couldn't seem to make complete sentences.)

Nathan: "Well who made it?" (He then looked at me.)

Peanut: "My mom and her friend made it for me." (She had a grin going from ear to ear, but then she remembered the line I had suggested she memorize in case we had a chance to meet him.) "And I've been wanting to say this for a long time now: (insert dramatic stance leaning back and pointing)"MY ARCH-NEMESIS!"

Nathan: "Haha! Well I guess I should do this!" (He stood up and did big slow-mo punch to the face and as he did so Peanut improvised a dramatic knock-back and we had a good chuckle. When she stood back up, he asked: "So have you got eyes under there?" (She was wearing tinted goggles.)

Peanut: "Yes!" (She then lifted them up onto her head.)

Nathan: "Ah yes, I see a girl in there." He then smiled that suave smile he has. "Well, do you want to shake my hand?"

Peanut: Yes!

Me: But gently! (I had to warn her because Nathan was wearing a bandage on his right hand. They shook hands. He and I shook hands.)

I don't think any other words were exchanged beyond "thank yous" and wishing each other a good night. He was very kind, warm (literally and figuratively - his hand was unusually warm), goofy, tanned, and well... handsome. :) Peanut literally hopped away from the signing booths she was so excited.

I'll post a couple pics when I get back home but we only have one of the celebs - Nicholas Brendon a.k.a. Xander. (Turned out it only cost $10 if you took the pic with your own phone but I am not sure all the celebs did it.)
