I agree with all of these points, good and bad. I had forgotten that the Rachni never appeared after you free the big one but now that's bugging me, too. I will say that I think my favorite thing about this entire game really is just how REAL everyone feels. The ambient dialogue that showed squaddies actually forming friendships with EACH OTHER as well as Shepard, how much more "human" Shep came across as being (it was in the body language as well), just I really love everything about how people in this game interact with each other. And I've seen some complaints about all the auto dialogue but I liked it, for the most part. It was rare for Alex to say anything OOC, but then again he's as Paragon as you can get so maybe it's Renegades who are running into stuff they consider OOC? I thought the script was great, too. There were a LOT of speeches that probably could have been ultra corny but somehow weren't. It really felt like Shepard was a soldier hellbent on saving the world, it was awesome.
I think you hit the nail on the head with lack of closure with endings. Because not only do I not know for sure what happens to my crew (although the second you think about it you realize you don't want to know), you don't find out what happens to the rest of the galaxy, either. If you chose Destroy, how many people died because their impants or other tech doesn't work anymore? If you chose control, does that mean you can make Reapers maybe go back and FIX things? How does everyone react to being turned part synthetic? You don't get to see if the krogan manage to start having babies, if the quarians finally get to settle on Rannoch with the geth using themselves to speed up the time it's gonna take for them to be able to live suit free, you don't get to see if any of the peace you fought for lasts, or even how much of earth got destroyed. It just ends. It realyl makes you feel like "what's even the point?", at least it does for me.
BUT, back to the positive: ALMOST EVERYTHING BEFORE THAT WAS PERFECT. I have very little sympathy for the quarians at this point, but hearing Tali talk about building a home on her homeworld was lovely. Everything about the set-up for that felt perfect - getting to see those "memories" from the geth about how the war started, hearing that the geth showed mercy (and having to place a huge amount of trust in Legion in order to jack myself into that...whatever that was to see them) seeing those, even Legion sacrificing himself to make it work...tears. And when Tali said that the geth had been uploading themselves into quarian suits and boosting their immune systems, making it possible for them to live without suits a lot sooner than they thought? I was SO PROUD of the geth, THOSE ARE MY BABIES OKAY.
TUCHANKA. It was even more perfect than Rannoch, imo. Wrex just inspires so much love and loyalty from me, I DON'T KNOW HOW ANYONE COULD KILL HIM. And Eve is just as awesome, WE FINALLY GOT A FEMALE KROGAN AND SHE'S BADASS PERSONIFIED, but she's also smart and ambitious and <33 It was fascinating, finding the Krogan ruins - I wonder what Mordin would have said if he'd seen the Krogan art. And KALROS PWNING THAT REAPER WAS AWESOME. Mordin's death made me sob like a little child, but it was PERFECT. "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong." Still crying. And then Wrex being all "To every Krogan born after this day, the name 'Shepard' will mean 'hero'.", more ugly tears. Watching the cure get distributed was possibly one of the most beautiful moments in the series for me.
The new crew I adore as well, I really did. James and Javik were my favorites. I loved their banter with the other squad members, it felt a bit more like a real family than I thought it would. I think out of all the ME2 cameos outside of Mordin's, Grunt's and Jack's were my favorite. I think Jack's wins out just because he gave my Shepard so much shit and I loved it, and then we went dancing at the bar and she made the "Shepard can't dance" thing legitimately canon.
Seriously so much of the game was perfect up until the end, which if I play again will only to be to get the synergy ending since I can't justify wiping out the geth and all that other tech JUST because that's the only ending where my Shep possibly lives.
AND I forgot to add: it irks me that things like whether I cured the genophage and got krogan support or got peace between the quarians and the geth didn't somehow appear in those final scenes - I could have chosen to kill all the geth and if I had gotten enough points, I would have still gotten the variation when the earth doesn't get destroyed as someone who opted to kill them. I was just hoping to get to see the races working TOGETHER a bit more, since I worked my ass off to get everyone united, and yet I get the same scene variations as someone who did none of those things. I know it's probably dumb but it's like...why did I even bother, then? Because they gave me war assets? Blah. If they WERE gonna go with those endings, the execution needed a lot of work to even be passable, imo.
