Let's talk about keyboard shortcuts! They're combinations of keys that you can press at the same time to quickly do things on your computer. I like 'em because you can work without having to move your hands back and forth from the keyboard to mouse over and over. Many of these work in several different programs, since coder nerds love efficiency ( Read more... )

Y'know, alt+tab was one of the first things I was taught when sat in front of a PC. And I know shift added toa keyboard shortcut normally reverses something. But it never occured to me to alt/shift/tab before.

Spacebar-page down in a webpage unless you're focused on something, in which case it's select/unselect (like checkboxes and similar)

Ctrl+r also refreshes a page in a browser, useful if your keyboard contacts are slightly corroded and your function keys don't work properly (this laptop=not rainproof)

I've also used SharpKeys to edit the registry to tell CapsLock to be Home, very very useful as it a) stops me using capslock and b) lets me get tot he top of pages quickly, reprogramming shortcuts can be helpful if oyu know what you need to do a lot. Oh, and Irfanview is set to send a screencap to my 'bugs' folder when I press alt+c, but again software needs to be installed.

ctrl+t new tab in a browser

ctrl+n new window in a browser

ctrl+l puts the focus to the addressbar (and alt+enter opens what you type in a new window)

ctrl+k to the search bar (might be Fx only)

ctrl+w close a tab, or window if there's only one tab (the latter of which can be turned off in Fx and I have to do it because ti just seems wrong to me)

And as I get to the end my brains is bugging me tellign I'm missing something I use a lot, but won't tell me what. Silly brain.
