A fresh look at Philippine Governance -- "Ang Kapatiran"

Feb 24, 2007 19:40

Hi everyone! I would like to invite you all to think "out of box" in the coming May 2007 elections.

I hope you all find the time to read this invitation. Oh, and feel free to pass this on to your friends and family if you wish. No pressure though.

When I got the news that my father, Jess Paredes, is running for the senate, I was overwhelmed. I thought to myself that if he wins, "finally, something great is going to happen to our country". I was enlightened not merely for the fact that he is my father, but, because I know who he is and what he is capable of doing. Ever since I was young, he taught me, my siblings, and everyone who knew him, about doing the right thing. His focus was always about 'what is right' regardless if the majority agreed with him or not. He showed everyone through example. Even if he had been working for the government for years and was surrounded by the many forms of corruption, the walls which kept his principles in-tact were never breached. This stands to be true even until today -- as seen in his recent resignation from government office due to his disagreement regarding the executive act of transferring L.C. Smith to US embassy without Judiciary process.

We need a fresh look on Philippine governance. Many people have been talking about how bad Philippine governance has become through the years, that the nation is not progressing, that we need a change. During the past elections, I notice that people would choose to vote for the lesser of two evils instead of voting for what's right. However, we don't have to fall under this predicament anymore. This could be a new beginning for all Filipinos who deserve nothing but what's best.

Thank you for your time. Peace!
