"Maci" and "Bentley" soar in baby name game
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Reality television and movies sparked a surge in the popularity of Maci, Bentley and Kellan as baby names last year, a report from the Social Security Administration on Thursday suggests.
Maci and Bentley were the names with the greatest increases in popularity. I totally take my bb naming cues from teen mothers u guize. Also, it's Bint-ley, not Bentley, tyvm. Maci Bookout is a personality from MTV show "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom." Bentley is the name of her son.
Kellan is the second fastest-growing boy's name, from "Twilight" star Kellan Lutz, while Tiana, the name of Disney's first African-American princess in "The Princess and the Frog" is increasingly popular for girls.
Knox, the moniker for one of Brad Pitt's and Angelina Jolie's twins, was third on the boys.
However, the most popular baby names were a bit more classic. For the twelfth year in a row, Jacob was the favorite boys name. Isabella, for the second year, won out for the girls.
Both were picked for more than 20,000 newborns each, or around one percent of the total, based on Social Security card applications for U.S. births.
Ethan and Sophia ranked second respectively for boys and girls.
The Social Security Administration said that there has been a recent trend in names that were popular in the early to mid-1900s like Ava and Chloe. This probably means more newborn girls are being named after their grandmothers.
Ava was fifth on the girls list with Emma, and Olivia the other names in the top five in overall popularity. Michael, Jayden, and William, filled out the top five for boys.
Social Security commissioner Michael Astrue said he was disappointed in at least one feature of this year's list. Elvis, for the first time since 1954, fell out of the top 1,000 names. Oh yeah, it's a great name...for a lizard (points if you remember him from Clarissa)
"This news about Elvis has me all shook up," Astrue said in a statement. "But that's all right mama. I'm confident that, next year, America's new parents can't help falling in love with Elvis again and moving it back into the top 1,000."
Source for bb names article May 6, 2011 -- "Teen Mom 2" star Jenelle Evans is clean of drugs. The MTV mom has passed two court ordered drug screenings as a part of her year long probation. In fact, Jenelle seems to be doing much better all around, as she recently confirmed she's no longer with boyfriend Kieffer Delp.
“Jenelle [Evans] has not tested positive [for drugs or alcohol] and she has met with her probation officer twice,” Jenelle’s attorney Dustin Sullivan told HollyBaby. The "Teen Mom" is seemingly taking her probation very seriously.
Over the past week, Evans has also been busy on Twitter. The young mother has been sharing intimate photos of herself and son Jace with her followers, leaving many to believe that she is also becoming a better mother. "Jenelle is clean!" tweeted one fan.

Several Teen Mom stars have Tweeted their feelings about the death of Osama bin Laden. While they're happy for the victorious Navy Seals, some of them have fears that are nagging at them, too. Leah Messer, Kyle King, Gary Shirley, Kailyn Lowry, and Farrah Abraham all weighed in via Twitter regarding the bin Laden situation.
According to a report from HollywoodLife, the reality TV stars pride themselves in keeping up-to-date on current events. It's hard to believe that Ambur keeps up with current events in between her busy schedule of krav maga classes/doing coke, shopping at Deb, picking up convicted felons guys at Wal-Mart, beating up Gary, studying for her PhD in neurobiology GED, and neglecting her daughter. Here's what they each had to say about Osama bid Laden's death on May 1.
Teen Mom star Gary Shirley, the father of Amber Portwood's little girl, Leah, Tweeted, "When were knocked down we can get up. When buildings are destroyed we can rebuild. With numbers comes power we are United ... join the Army ... @BarackObama summed it up very well. All the lost loved ones will never be forgotten. Thank you to all the soldiers past and present."
Farrah Abraham, a Teen Mom herself, found the situation to be nothing but celebratory. She Tweeted, "We should all celebrate right now!"
Does it make you wonder how these Teen Mom stars may have celebrated? It's pretty unlikely it was with patriotic songs and moments of silence! lol
Teen Mom Maci Bookout's boyfriend Kyle King was one of those with grave concerns. His Tweet said the following.
"Okay he's dead ..now shut up before they blow some more sh*t up."
Teen Mom Leah Messer re-Tweeted a message shared by a close friend. She claims to feel the same way. That Tweet reads, "I really hope they dont retailate :/ it will be much worse now if they do. But I am glad that after 10yrs they got Osama."
At least there are a couple of realists in this group of young people.
And Teen Mom Kaily Lowry had a rather simplistic fitting, since she's so simple-minded view, Tweeting, "Proud to live in an amazing country! Osama got what he deserved..."
Keeping abreast of current events is probably one of very few positive things these Teen Mom stars are noted for.
Hopefully, they fully understand the seriousness of the situation, as well as the reason behind Osama bin Laden's death. Perhaps this small dose of actual reality will help these "reality" stars broaden their rather narrow horizons.
Source for Teen Moms Tweeting About bin Laden Teen Mom Amber Portwood in tears as judge tells her she WILL face trial for domestic battery
Teen Mom reality star Amber Portwood dressed up to the nines for her appearance in court today, but she received a dressing down from the judge.
Portwood, 21, arrived at the Madison County Courthouse to hear her fate regarding the two felony counts of domestic battery she was charged with in December.
The troubled MTV star also faces charges of neglect of a dependent and one misdemeanour count of domestic battery.
All charges stem from an incident in which she was filmed striking ex Gary Shirley, 24 , in front of their two-year-old daughter Leah last year.
The Indiana native, who is believed to be reconciling with Shirley, had hoped that the charges would be dropped and reportedly sobbed in disbelief when a judge set a November 16 court date for the trial.
'She was really upset, she was crying,' a source told E! News.
Another witness added that the brunette 'stormed out' after the judge declared she would face trial, and added: 'You could tell she wasn't happy.'
Portwood, who is to star alongside Maci, Catelynn and Farrah in two more series of the hit show, chose an extraordinary outfit for her appearance.
Presumably the troubled youngster was told to dress up by her brief, but had taken that to mean for a night out at a local bar.
Her pink ruffled dress certainly seemed incongruous with the court room setting.
Portwood's ex, for his part, seemed to try and render the judge blind and insensible by wearing a bright green tracksuit top, but sadly his cunning plan failed.
Even his plea to the judge couldn't persuade the court to lift the no-contact order that's preventing Portwood from seeing Shirley while their daughter is present.
It was temporarily modified for the show's reunion episode but is now being held fast in place until the trial and possibly beyond.
Still, Shirley's utter forgiveness towards the mother of his child must have been some solace for Portwood, especially as he kissed her tenderly after the bad news. Throwing up my dessert right now...
This has been a terrible week for Portwood though, even in the scheme of her tumultuous young life.
Just four days ago Portwood's home in Anderson, Indiana was vandalised after her neighbour Jamie Monroe accused her of cheating with her boyfriend.
A friend told E! : 'Amber's been doing so well staying out of the spotlight and she's just not in a good place. She can't see her daughter, she's really upset.'
