Keira Knightley has claimed that overblown expectations make love "difficult."
The Pirates of The Caribbean star is in a long-term relationship with fellow actor Rupert Friend, who she starred alongside in 2005’s Pride and Prejudice.
While the act of falling in love can be quite rare, Keira believes it teaches people invaluable information about themselves.
"It’s difficult to be in love because your expectations are so high," she told the British edition of OK!
"But I believe in love and romance very deeply. I think that as you learn more about yourself, you also learn to be more caring and vulnerable to the man you love."
Emotional depth is very important to the 25-year-old British actress, who values personality over physical looks.
Being labelled pretty does not bother her, but the Atonement star does not like to encourage superficiality.
"It’s not the worst thing that can happen to you!" Keira said, when asked if she gets tired of being called beautiful.
"But you want people to look beyond the surface and see that there’s more to your than that."
The actress’s new film, Never Let Me Go, has a strong psychological element running through it. The movie centres around relationship between three children who have grown up at an English boarding school.
"It’s certainly been one of the most intriguing and demanding films I’ve ever been a part of," said Keira.
"This film has a much deeper psychological edge to it and that was part of what drew me to it. There was an interesting level of intensity while we were shooting the film and I hope people will experience that when they see it."
