In a video released today, a visibly moved Ellen DeGeneres addressed the recent rash of teen suicides that have been linked to bullying and homophobia. In her message, she told viewers, "We can't let intolerance and ignorance take another kid's life." DeGeneres also spoke specifically to any struggling teens who might be watching, "People's minds will change, and you should be alive to see it."
On a similar note, out columnist Dan Savage and his husband recently started the "
It Gets Better" project, encouraging LGBT adults to shoot and post videos to their YouTube channel assuring LGBT youth who might be in crisis that their lives will get better. The project also encourages participants to share stories about how the quality of their own lives improved as they matured.
