God, season 3.
Is this the same show from season 1? The one I was geeking out over because it had epic examples of cognitive dissonance and things people did MADE SENSE? The politics were interesting and I could see people's actions changing their beliefs. Oh, and Apollo wasn't a boring cardboard cutout white boy protagonist in the way I expected, he had a purpose and was there to question everyone's decisions.
Where did all of the questioning of authority go? Why is this show turning into every other military scifi's debate on whether to kill lots of people/torture prisoners?
Before I get into that, this episode was LAZY.
All of a sudden we have a bar? When did we have time to build this? Oh wait, doesn't matter, the characters explain why its been added in this episode "bars exist because of marriage". Yay. In their defense, this didn't turn into outright woman bashing, but the whole episode read like every other marriage conflict you see on TV ("you don't trust me and you're insecure! " blah blah). Introducing a bar so guys can come complain about their wives is a whole new level of cliche you guys. THIS IS LAZY, EXTREMELY LAZY.
Along with that, we get, yet again, TORTURE TIME! We saw how effective that was last time, right? Oh, after the fact Roslin decides "lets be nice!" when it's much too late and Baltar definitely has a soured view of you. TV, seriously, I'm really tired of negative treatment being your first resort, it bothers me to watch (I have no shame in saying I've fastforwarded every time BSG tortured anyone) and I don't think its the right thing to do.
OH, but the big one: ROSLIN AND ADAMA ARE SURPRISED TO FIND THAT BALTAR CONSIDERS HIMSELF A VICTIM AND NOT A GUILTY VILLAIN. SERIOUSLY? Is there no one in fucking command with a BA or ANYTHING in psychology? Are you all retarded? You think people in the real world who do bad things go around thinking of themselves that way? ARRRRGGGG.
Show, have someone with a BA in psychology proofread your script, or something. Or just someone with a brain.
If I had to choose one thing I miss most on this show now (other than the girls not being baby crazy and STUPID), I miss people questioning authority and having integrity. That's actually what drew me to the show the most, and it's gone. Just -completely- gone now.
