Blood Runneth Under

So this weekend was seriously the most surreal of my life. It all began on Friday with me deciding 3 weeks after getting a blood workup from my doctor, to finally go to the lab and get it done. I got up, showered, changed my mind, changed my mind again and headed to Olin.

I left feeling quite pleased with myself. Got back to my dorm had some lunch, i.e. bagel and then came upstairs to nap. The phone it rang about an hour and a half later, I let it ring cause its my room phone and I ain't got caller id. Finally I check my messages and it says 'you have a package from toshiba at the front desk', I grin. The next message says,

"Hi, this is Patricia from Mid-Michigan Health and it appears you went to do soome lab tests today and they called your doctor because you have a hemoglobin count of 5. I cannot stress to you how serious this is .... if you should fall or something then you could bleed to death or go into a coma ... go the ER ... blood transfusion ...call us here at the doctor when you get this message...sorry to scare you like this over the phone but this is extremely serious."

Needless to say, the grin was wiped from my face. I rang the doctor's office and talked to Patricia who again instructed me to call the ER and that the doctor would call me in. The whole time I am thinking, 'WTF?'

So needless to say I spent the weekend in the hospital. I got to the hospital and the people at the ER were ready and waiting for me. I waited 20 minutes for a room and then I was on. I had my own room, and flat panel tv and fancy equipment. Yes, these are the things I notice. I also noticed they had Food Network, colour me happy.

Apparently things turned out to be a bit more complicated than just low hemoglobin, so I was submitted to countless tests and 4 blood transfusions. I was released yesterday and because they haven't figured out whats wrong with me I will be becoming very familiar with 3 doctors.

Yeah! My weekend was awesome. I can't wait for my mom to call and tell me how much the bill was. Heh.
