the breakdown...
baltimore: yep, most of the buildings in the city are extremely old, older than anything in phoenix, period. in some cases this makes them beautiful because they've been preserved, such as the MICA campus, the inner harbor, and fells point (both of the last two being touristy areas down south of the campus) ... but in other cases it just makes them dilapidated, because they aren't being taken care of, such as some of the areas found between the harbor and the campus. there is definitely some seriously ghetto areas in baltimore. if pussies from MRHS are scared of metrocenter mall here in phoenix, they would probably croak over in baltimore. it's really weird how quickly it transitions, too -- one minute you're cruising someplace gorgeous, the next minute you're in the hood surrounded by run down KFCs and googly-eyed crackasses. overall, i did not fall deeply in love with baltimore but i didn't hate it either, it has its good and bad parts. the light rail is all right but some of the people on it are a little funky. i didn't go on the subway, and after being in nyc's subway, i'm a little scared to. more on that later. i met my roommate on monday since she lives in one of the suburbs. she's really nice, but i think she will think i'm a total weirdo once she gets to know me. i'm still going to be striving toward getting a single bedroom. the off-campus living is not looking like it will be possible for a variety of reasons. i hung out on the campus on monday too and saw some really sexy people, which made me happy, because i am hellbent on dating once i arrive at college. the campus is awesome, i love its buildings, i love that everybody seems like they're having a good time ^_^ it's just what's outside the campus that can be rather sketchy, haha. my roommate says she's never been mugged in baltimore, so that's a good sign. i still think i need to learn how to whip some ass though, ninja-style, just in case.
dc: the dc metro subway is neat! even though it is ugly and orange on the inside of the cars. i only went around the nicer parts of dc, so i guess i can't judge it overall, but i really had fun there. the national gallery of art had an exhibit of jim dine drawings that enthralled me more than almost anything else i saw the entire trip, they were absolutely beautiful. mixed media = god, i want to work on some mixed media stuff now. i really wish i could have stayed and spent days looking at those drawings..:\ i also ate some excellent pizza in the gay area of dc, haha. there's nothing better than munching on some great pizza while surrounded by pretty gay boys ^_^ on the metro they have the name of the line and stuff announced by an actual person, and you can hardly ever tell what the fuck they're saying because it's an intercom. and red line: glenmont becomes reh' lyn, glenmo' because of the accent, hehe.
manhattan: holy fuck, i'm so glad i didn't try to move there right off the bat, because nyc is great but really overwhelming. and the subway scarred me for life, oh my god. the ceilings of the subway are really low, which aggrivated my claustrophobia like crazy. once again the insides of the cars were ugly orange, ay. after i went there i started having nightmares of the subway. in the first one the ceiling was closing in on me, which made me bolt up in bed yelping "no" over and over. in the second one there were no lights down there and i was trying to find my way; eventually i realized that it wasn't real and in fact i'd been groping around in the dark in my aunt's guest room. -_-; the shopping is amazing, not to mention the sales. i bought some black slipper-like shoes and some gifts for my family. i also saw a play (sight unseen, i dug it) and hung out a little in times square. bought some modest mouse cds on sale at the virgin megastore in times square, yay. i went to the met, which of course was amazing. i saw works by chuck close, eric fischl, lucien freud, pierre bonnard....in person. mmmf. then i went to the forum gallery to see their odd nerdrum show. spectacular, ah! i'd seen images of a lot of his paintings, but to see them in person was a whole other enchilada. ate a really good sandwich in soho and walked around. went to bryant park & washington square. then it rained like a mofo on friday o___O which would have foiled my plan to purchase some $4 shoes at 6th & 51st, but i was determined, so i hurried down the street in the rain. (no umbrella, we didn't bring one. thankfully the hotel was only a block from there) along the way this big guy pushing a soda cart smiled at me and told me that he wished he had an umbrella to give me so i wouldn't get wet. i thought that was really nice. i found the shoe cart and bought two pairs of those cheap cute slipper shoes, one pink and one blue. then we got the fuck out of there, eesh.
so moo :) that's the meat of it. i feel like a different person in some ways, now that i'm more aware of what i'm getting into. i want to relish every day i have left here at home. i missed everyone so much, especially my family -- i talked to them for about an hour each day. i think i will be able to find happiness in baltimore, even if there are a few obstacles, but i am going to miss home like crazy.
<3.
my pictures are going to be ready in about an hour, yay. i'll upload them to dismayed once they're all scanned ^_^
...and to top it all off, i'm getting photoshop on monday. YES!!
