We have a Wii. It rocks for Wii Sports, Mario Kart and similar.

OTOH, it completely sucks for games like Need For Speed - not even worth buying anything which attempts to have realistic graphics, it will just disappoint.

Singstar type games I'm not sure of. Nicole really wants one, her sister's family have four of the Singstar games, but for the Wii the only one we keep seeing at stores is a Disney one, which doesn't have the same choice in tracks.

Here's a rather negative -- but believable -- review of Karaoke Revolution on the Wii: http://www.wiinintendo.net/2008/02/08/karaoke-revolution-american-idol-wii-review/

I haven't played Lips on the Xbox 360, but with the recent price cuts on them I'd almost recommend one of those, assuming you don't want to go the whole hog for a PS3, Kate.

The wii versions of those games i've heard as being largely disappointing.

there are no games on the xbox 360 that i would play other than that, likewise for the ps3, only want singstar.

disappointing from a gamers point of view, or disappointing generally?

well, I should really put my ruddbucks towards the gps/reverse camera system for my car that I've been looking at getting forever... but that's something sensible that I need, not some cool play toy that I want!

You can get Guitar Hero for Wii as well, so I guess if you wanted a versatile console (for your needs anyway) get the Wii.

Though, I think people tend to get GH:WT for the instruments and Rock Band for the songs. :-)

If you like singing, I'd receommend Rock Band. I did the same song ("Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac, which I know hideously well) and got Top Performer (like 96%) on Expert in RB, but had to go to Medium on GH:WT and even then barely got through. Someone in the room said to me, "Yeah, don't bother trying to sing it. Just kindof hit the notes and stay on them, as flat as possible." Someone else replied with, "It's really a pity that they don't recognise vibrato or anything like that as being good singing."

So if you want to sing and not feel like a failure, I'd say RB :)

The Wii is the most casual of consoles, making a lot of people I know say it's not worth it. But a lot of people I know... make... games... for a living ;)

Generally it depends what games you want. There are some really cool XBOX360 games, but I think most of them you can get on PC if you wait... Plus, the Wii is cool because of the whole remote thing :)
